Pope Frank(that's my nickname for him!) seems like much more of a man of the people than Benedict-his choice of a name-Francis-is interesting. I've always loved St. Francis so that gets a from me.

RIP Richard Griffiths - Uncle Monty in Withnail & I and Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter films. There must be something about him that says "wicked uncle", though I'm sure he was a lovely man in real life.

She and Jim Henson met in a University of Maryland puppetry class in the mid-1950s, and they became creative and business partners in the development of the Muppets.
The Hensons married in 1959 and had five children: Lisa, Cheryl, Brian, John and Heather. The pair separated in 1986, and Jim Henson died in 1990.
In 1992, Jane Henson created and funded The Jim Henson Legacy to preserve his artistic contributions.

He'd been ill for a long time, though, so while the news is sad, it doesn't come as a total surprise.

London (CNN) -- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, a towering figure in postwar British and world politics and the only woman to become British prime minister, has died at the age of 87.
She suffered a stroke Monday, her spokeswoman said.
Thatcher's funeral will be at St. Paul's Cathedral, with full military honors, followed by a private cremation, the British prime minister's office announced.
Thatcher served from 1975 to 1990 as leader of the Conservative Party. She was called the "Iron Lady" for her personal and political toughness.
She retired from public life after a stroke in 2002 and suffered several strokes after that.
She made few public appearances in her final months, missing a reception marking her 85th birthday hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron in October 2010. She also skipped the July 2011 unveiling of a statue honoring her old friend Ronald Reagan in London.
In December 2012, she was hospitalized after a procedure to remove a growth in her bladder.

(CNN) -- Annette Funicello, one of the best-known members of the original 1950s "Mickey Mouse Club" and a star of numerous 1960s "beach party" films, died Monday at a California hospital of complications from multiple sclerosis, the Walt Disney Co. said.
Funicello was just 12 when she was selected by Walt Disney himself to be one of the original Mouseketeers of the "Mickey Mouse Club," the 1950s television variety show aimed at children.
Funicello, who had a background in dance, quickly became one of the most popular Mouseketeers.

I used to watch her in reruns on the Disney Channel after school. Tough week to be famous.
Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

We had police round our way last night to break up a street party not far from where I live. I was no fan of Thatcher, but holding a party to celebrate someone's death is just ghoulish.
