First Lemmy, then David Bowie, now Alan Rickman. All around the same age, all dead of cancer. What's going on?

it's weird like last year when Christopher Lee and two other 93 year old bond actors died.Kristatos wrote:First Lemmy, then David Bowie, now Alan Rickman. All around the same age, all dead of cancer. What's going on?

Dogma too.Kristatos wrote:He was great in Galaxy Quest too.
Sad, sad day. Alan Rickman and Roger Rees were two of my favorite actors growing up. Coincidence they were both sheriffs of Nottingham in Robin Hood movies. Roger Rees I never saw in Cheers it was MANTIS and Mel Brooks where I found him first it was a treat to find him in other TV series and movies.
Sad to lose Rickman even the kids feel his loss, I always wanted him to take on Bond someday. I'm glad Rickman had a chance to be remember by a new generation of fans.
Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

It probably won't get as much media attention as other recent deaths, but Doctor Who writer Robert Banks Stewart has also passed away. As well as writing two stories that I vividly remember from my childhood, Terror of the Zygons and The Seeds of Doom, he also created the detective series Shoestring, filmed and set in my native Bristol.

The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams star Dan Haggerty has died.
Haggerty lost his battle to cancer Friday morning at age 74, PEOPLE confirms.
Haggery's rep and friend of 20 years Terry Bomar told PEOPLE Haggerty was diagnosed with cancer in his spine in August after experiencing back pain in July.
"He fought hard," Bomar said. "He had a great Thanksgiving, he had a great Christmas with his family."
Bomar added that Haggerty was visited by his close friends and family in the hospital in his final days.

More sad news for Celine Dion.
Dion's rep confirmed to ET on Friday that the 47-year-old singer's older brother, Daniel Dion, is fighting a serious battle with cancer. Dion's husband, René Angélil, died on Thursday after his own long battle with throat cancer.
Daniel, 59, is one of Celine's 13 brothers and sisters. According to a recent interview Celine's sister, Claudette, gave to The Journal of Montreal, Daniel only has "a matter of days or hours" to live.
"It looks a lot like René, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain," Claudette said of her brother's condition. "Our family is very experienced."
"He is 59 years old, very young to be the end of life," she added.

Breaking News Thread
It's shocking the number of famous people early this year losing a battle with cancer. I wonder if it is genetic or something people of the same age were exposed to.
I also wonder if the cell phone cancer connection is real. If it is in another ten year it will be a cancer epidemic

I hate cell phones. I only carry one in my car when driving. I believe they emit too much radio waves and who knows the long term effects? This generation is in an experimental clinical trial with all of these devices and I personally don't see good coming from it long term.

Re: Breaking News Thread
Longtime ESPN football analyst Chris Mortensen has been diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer and will take an immediate leave of absence to undergo treatment.
Mortensen, 64, learned of the diagnosis last week but made the news public Friday in an official statement through ESPN. Nixon declared war on cancer 40 years ago and basically NOTHING has been CURED. I have been told over the years by people in the health care field that cancer is big business, and cures would end the money flow, so that is the major reason that little has been accomplished.

My personal feeling is the recent deaths in January are directly related to these poor brave people holding on through their sickness to celebrate one more holiday season with their loved ones. I've seen this kind of strength personally in my life, it hit us all as fans with an especially hard edge because it is seemingly one after another

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist for Eagles, died Monday. He was 67.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016,” the band said in a statement. “Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia. The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery. Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.”

Interesting to read the articles about David Bowie turning to religion before his death. The video for the first single on his new album has a religious bent(and is called "Lazarus" FCOL!)Blowfeld wrote:My personal feeling is the recent deaths in January are directly related to these poor brave people holding on through their sickness to celebrate one more holiday season with their loved ones.
