Talking of foods you can only get on one side of the Atlantic, today I've developed a sudden craving for clam chowder (the creamy New England type, not the tomato-based Manhattan kind). Don't think I've ever seen it for sale in the UK.

European Union to ban calling meat free items burgers, sausages etc. We are not allowed to call soya milk "milk" now.

https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/a ... gan-steaks
Veggie burgers are for the chop, a Brussels committee has decreed, to be replaced by the less palatable-sounding “veggie discs”.

And it won’t be just bean or mushroom burgers condemned to the food bin of history. Vegan sausages, tofu steaks and soya escalopes could all be approaching their ultimate best-before date, after a vote in the European parliament on revisions to a food-labelling regulation.

In a move that some MEPs suspect bears the fingerprints of the meat industry, the parliament’s agriculture committee this week approved a ban on producers of vegetarian food using nomenclature usually deployed to describe meat.

I enjoyed this video of a person trying a range of foods from a US budget supermarket. The host is a bit over the top, but the content was interesting.

Image I was by an upscale New Jersey italian restaurant last night. I did not go in, but I was walking by it. I looked at their menu. They list this organic veal chop with vegetable and potato for $78.00 :!: :hair: They said it is organic and raised without hormones nor steroids. It cost MORE than their filet mignon :!: I never saw this price for veal anywhere, nor did my friends who were with me.

I couldn't imagine paying those sorts of prices even if I was super-rich. No meal is worth that much.

Not a fan of veal-I would definitely be all about it if it were a good cut of beef. Maybe for a special birthday(I’m turning 50 next year..)

I just got back from indoor dining in an upscale NJ restaurant with friends. They feature a BBQ rotisserie for their chickens. The entire inside smelled from wood smoke. Our hair and clothes all reek from wood smoke smell. Weird evening.
