Well I missed out on the video games :( Oh well. They'll live without more new toys :)

New deal that some of you may like. wal-mart has the x-men trilogy for $10, there is a papa johns coupon out there for $5 off the X-men trilogy. Making the x-men trilogy $5 + tax and it comes with a $5 certificate for movie cash for the new movie :) pretty sweet

I hadn't tried it out myself but it should be available in most areas.

Good one! Now, if only my parents could find a flat screen TV for a good price(though at $50 I would suspect it was hot(stolen) ) :cheers:

we used to grow our own tomatoes in little raised bed garden deal but the squirrels got them more than we did. Nothing better than a tomato fresh from the garden. Squirrels must have thought so too.

They wanted to make a tomato and nut salad. :wink: You need a greenhouse of some other enclosed space to grow them in?

If we want to go down that road, then this book might be a good investment;

Part of me fantasises about living self-sufficiently like Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal in The Good Life. The problem is, I'm incredibly squeamish. I think I'd last until the fist time I had to slaughter a chicken or muck out a latrine.

I do not have a strong stomach. I could do everything except for slaughtering animals. I've had to muck out animal stalls, and that's not pleasant. But it's preferable to killing animals.

Nor would be cleaning out a human latrine, but there are toilets where the smell is absorbed(I believe by cedar-someone can correct me if I'm wrong) which can then be disposed of, with a minmum of fuss, and in a eco friendly way.

But can it be re-used as fertiliser?

On the subject of water and living off the grid, what do the self-sufficient folks use for drinking/washing/cooking etc. if they don't happen to have a well or spring on their property? Anyone know?

I'm not sure what survivalists use for water when there is no well nearby. In The Good Life they paid water rates to get tap water! Maybe small quantities of rain water can be converted.

There are lots of survivalist forums if you type in "survivalist forums" on Google.

I'm a vegetarian. :oops: So I'd say don't eat meat when if you are self-sufficient. :D All those nasty tasks involved in self-sufficiency would become bearable after they were done lots of time. Someone could be hired to kill a chicken and paid with some goods such as jam (!) or with a service in return.
