Watched the first 3 shows of Star Trek Dr McCoy's new show Almost Human. Pretty standard stuff grizzled detective doesn't like robots has a robot partner. But the show so far is better than the clichés. The two leads sell it and I keep waiting for something big to happen both characters have a hidden past and both were about to be sent out to pasture and this is their last chance to matter in life whatever life consists of.

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Talking about duck dynasty today it all over the news with various groups claiming some form of martyrdom no matter their position. Here what we are thinking its a PR stunt gone wrong by A&E.
They let him talk to GQ probably to get some publicity about a bible thumping red neck offending some delicate sensibility of a few Yankees, almost no way it doesn't happen in a situation like this. So it happens as they planned except AE does the dumb move of suspending the head of the family, great for press and stories and it might work except the Duck people don't seem to be in on it and don't seem to be the kind of people to go along with a stunt like this. Even if they are the people upset are not acting. so it seems like and lose lose for AE. People want the show to move off A&E in a bad way.
Im not a fan only watched maybe one show. I don't care what he said and didn't read all the details
Is it a bad PR stunt or bad management ?

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.
Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Definitely a PR stunt, but I don't know if it's a bad one, I hear the ratings have shot up since all this started.Dr. No wrote:T

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Thats what we were thinking initially except the rednecks in the show don't seem to be in on the stunt so they could very well take the show to another network and/or quit. It's a successful stunt in getting attention but if A&E loses the biggest show on cable tv do they win in the end?Kristatos wrote:Definitely a PR stunt, but I don't know if it's a bad one, I hear the ratings have shot up since all this started.Dr. No wrote:T

Why is a channel called arts and entertainment producing reality shows? TLC and others with a higher calling are doing the same.

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Just as I predicted (though I though A&E would keep the charade going a little longer). And I'm not sure that the "rednecks" weren't in on it. I've seen photos of them before the show started and they were clean-shaven, suited and booted. This hillbilly image is something created for the show. It's as artificial as the "firing".

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Looks like you were right and those rednecks actually have degrees in business so they are not the dump hillbillies they pretend to be. Although they did get attention for the show if the rednecks don't try to pull the show then its a win for ae and ford dealerships near the rednecks in question. what can they actually do, alot of talk about moving the show to another network but who own the show?Kristatos wrote:Just as I predicted (though I though A&E would keep the charade going a little longer). Hannibal on Blu Ray. Looks amazing,
Amy of the Storage Wars shows..TLC(The Learning Channel) has some shows. And(even though most of the stuff is fake) I have a soft spot for several of the TruTV shows.

Those reality shows such as the storage ones are very popular and must be cheap to make - so they are perfect for the people who run the channels.

I like them but hate the other "reality" series and the money "wasted" to make them

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
I was surprised at how quickly the furore over Duck Dynasty died down.
Quite frankly, I'm done being angry about it. The guy should have realized that saying something so controversial in an interview was going to piss people off.

I've been enjoying Blankety Blank reruns on Challenge.
Bring back Bond!
Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
It's on Sky Atlantic over here, which sucks, as I'm a Virgin Media subscriber and so don't get that channel.carl stromberg wrote:Is it going to be on the BBC in Britain or is it a Sky programme?Kristatos wrote:Any of our Stateside members watching Fleming on BBC America?

Re: What TV programmes are watching at the moment?
Two shows I enjoy that were 'cancelled' according to the actors are coming back. Lewis will be filming a new series this year and Noah Wyle's the Librarian looks as if it will have a new series as well.
When Lewis ended Mr Billie Piper was positive this was then end for both him and Kevin Whately, althou I don't believe Kevin ever said he would rule out returning, he wanted more time during the year to enjoy life and help out his charities. Mr Billie Piper (the man who could very well be the next 007 judging by Barbara's tastes) was mentioned as trying to 'break out' in Hollywood, I suppose this ambition did not go as well as he hoped.

we didn't watch as much of the winter olympics as last time. We actually drop out for two nights to watch the dog show on USA. What we did watch were more of the womens events not sure if it was the timing or channel.

The last ever episode of Outnumbered was on last night, and without wanting to give too much away (because it's still on iPlayer), it felt like the perfect place to end the series.
