Top Five favourite TV Programmes ever?

Post by carl stromberg »

What are your five favourite TV programmmes ever made?

Mine are:

Cheers
Sopranos
Star Trek: The Next Generation: I have to choose one of the Star Trek TV shows, and this is my favourite.
Columbo: I never get bored of this often repeated programme.
Auf Wiedersehen Pet: Or the first two series, especially the part in series 2 when they are renovating the country house.

Ooh, let me see. I need to cheat and do separate lists for comedy, drama and factual. All lists are in no particular order.

Drama: Doctor Who (of course), The Prisoner, The Singing Detective (do limited series count?), Twin Peaks and The Sweeney.

Comedy: Monty Python's Flying Circus, Blackadder, The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Have I Got News For You and The Colbert Report. I'd have added The Simpsons if the producers had the good sense to end it before it jumped the shark.

Factual: Planet Earth, Simon Schama's History of Britain, Michael Moore's TV Nation, Wildest Dreams and Digging For The Truth.

I wasn't sure whether it belonged in the "factual" or "comedy" categories, but to be honest, I struggled to fill all five slots in the factual category without just giving them all to David Attenborough series.

Michael Moore's TV Nation was a fun show too bad moore's gone all left wing crazy. I like his Canadian Bacon

The shows that come to mind first are the one that were canceled because they didn't get a chance, shows like xfiles & airwolf, while i miss them, got tedious near the end

Firefly, Star Trek Enterprise, The Visitor (by the guys who made stargate), New Amsterdam, Life

Futurama *lived on on DVD

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

Only by American standards. Anywhere else in the developed world, his views would be considered middle of the road. Even in America, I think more people agree with him on the Iraq war/PATRIOT Act, universal healthcare and Wall Street bankers (the subjects of his last three films) than the so-called "mainstream media" lets on.
