"On Friday, after the release of the third straight anemic employment report, Mr. Obama found himself on a campaign bus tour, conceding that the economy was not generating enough jobs, that the recovery was not taking hold quickly enough, and that too many Americans lacked basic financial security.

“It’s still tough out there,” Mr. Obama said to a sympathetic crowd in an elementary school gymnasium in Poland, Ohio. Later, in Pittsburgh, he said, “Too many of our friends and family members and neighbors are still out of work; too many folks still are seeing their home property values underwater.”

With few signs that the labor market will strengthen much before Election Day, Mr. Obama is honing a vocabulary to talk about the listless economy — one that emphasizes a glass-is-half-full approach to the numbers and an appeal to voters to take the long view when assessing the nation’s economic fortunes."

GOP voter edge grows in Iowa

Comments (99) By CHARLES MAHTESIAN | 7/6/12 9:35 AM EDT
Republicans continue to hold an edge in Iowa voter registration, according to the latest figures from the secretary of state’s office.

From the Des Moines Register report:

619,452 Iowa voters are now registered Republican, compared to 598,074 Democrats. Both parties, however, are outnumbered by No Party voters, at 655,457.

Democrats held a lead in registrations for several years beginning in mid-2006, but fell behind Republicans earlier this spring.

In an e-mailed statement, Iowa Democratic Party spokesman Michael Hunt said additional Republican registrations in June were probably related to the unusually large number of contested GOP races in the June 5 primary election, rather than a new and specific preference for Republican policies over Democratic ones.

At the end of October 2008, just before Barack Obama won Iowa by 10 points, Democrats had an edge of 106,000 voters. In 2004, when George W. Bush won the state narrowly, the GOP had a 4.400 voter advantage.

The trendline is positive for Iowa Republicans. Since April, in a key swing state that the most recent NBC News/Marist Poll reported was a presidential dead heat, the registration gap between the parties has grown from 4,000 voters to more than 21,000.

As the Globe acknowledges--buried deep within the article--Romney had taken a leave of absence from Bain in February 1999 to manage the Salt Lake City Olympics, and later to run for governor. His retirement was only formalized in a 2002 agreement that was retroactive to 1999, when Romney's leave of absence had begun. There is no contradiction between remaining formally in charge of Bain while on leave, and nothing illegal.
For weeks, the Obama camp has been pushing the claim that Romney had not, in fact, left active management of Bain in 1999, so it could blame him for any controversies that happened after that date. But one left-leaning fact-checking organization after another documented that Romney had, in fact, taken a leave of absence--even as mainstream news outlets continued to publish false accusations based on Obama's misleading "facts."

The Obama admin deserves the birthers I was sympathetic at first now.... Not so much. The Obama campaign is making up all kinds of stuff about Romney my favorite Mormon presidential candidate ;) Fact checking doesn't hold it up, lawsuits form the time don't name Romney and they would have if they could have.

Romney did a selfless thing quitting to save the winter Olympics, cause looking at the London Olympics you see what corruption and bribes can bring. McDonalds? I think once team Romney get to work spinning this back Obama is going to look bad, from an admin who has hardly released any records about the president's past. what the hell?

Obama one once scary guy, not juts his agenda his willingness to use the heavy arm of government to force things, holder his AG is fighting states who want to get ride of election fraud..........Voter IDs? our son gota free ticket to spider-man, I put the info in the for him cause I wanted to be sure what kind of stuff his name was being put on, the movie theater can demand to see my sons ID to make sure he if the named person on the ticket we printed out, why then in the most important part of our free society can anybody claiming to be fred Flintstone vote? I understand worries of republicans pruning Dems, but the people will be able to vote no matter what with provisional ballots, then nail the repubs publicly for purging legal voters, it'll be win win, except I think the dems think the old AAcorn stuff is what win them election and are afraid. I want everyone to vote and I want nobody turned away if they are legal and registered to vote same time I don't want Sheriff Andy RIP voting.

They're hitting Romney with this Bain thing because it works. You just have to say the words "Swiss bank account" to most people to implant the idea of Romney as a crook in their minds. It stinks, but the whole rotten system stinks. John Kerry tried taking the high road in 2004, avoiding negative campaigning as much as he could and thinking that the Swift Boat Veterans claims would just go away, and look where that got him. And I don't think you can compare it to birtherism, which was a fantasy promoted by paranoid nutjobs and not supported by any empirical evidence. This is taking known facts and spinning them in a way that shows Romney in a bad light, rather than simply making s**t up.

I don't think the Bain thing is working as well as it was supposed to. If it was then Obama killed it with is speech last Friday. Even take out of context the context the WH says it was supposed to have wasn't much better.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/note-mit ... AiNMo5WI20 This is great Dr. No :!: Kris, you were dead WRONG :!: Even in the swing states Romney is ahead and if it is tied at election day, Romney will get MOST of the undecided votes :!: While Democrats assail presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital business practices, Republicans note that President Obama has not been bashful about accepting cash from Bain executives or other high-profile figures in the corporate buyout business.
“President Obama has based his entire reelection campaign on a vicious, dishonest assault on Mitt Romney’s business career. The real question for President Obama is this: if Bain Capital is so bad, why have you taken nearly $120,000 in donations from them?” said Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul. “President Obama’s actions are the height of hypocrisy.” http://www.boston.com/politicalintellig ... story.html http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing- ... bama-in-va 3 1/2 more months to go to rid humanity of Oh-bama and Cr-egg, in one fell swoop :!:

The poll company also said Obama's average approval rating for the 14th quarter of his presidency "ranks in the 32nd percentile of all presidential quarterly approval averages Gallup has compiled since 1945, meaning it is well below the historical average of 54%. I'm guessing somebody in the media must have mentioned it, unless you've got a very long memory.

They did briefly but to harp on Romney's comment and forget what the prince of buffoons did is typical liberal hypocrisy.

some truth I'd make it illegal to advertise for political campaigns. Take the money out of it both the dems and repubs are dirty what i'd do is I'd give candidates state sponsored ads if there has to be any. Limited number of radio TV and print, internet ads and state sponsored debates. They can do the political rallies but I think we'd have to create a independent news agency not dependent on ads and aimed at being non partial. There are so many reporters in the tank for political parties its sad. Obama coun't get a background check for nothing, no the dems are crying the Romney is hiding something or not transparent enough well how about your man Barack releases all his records first.

And the smearing Reid is doing really is low McCain looked at 20 years of Romney records adn found nothing, I believe McCain over Reids whisper smear campaign. Like a phantom guy at bain where Romney hasn't work in over ten years would know the first thing about Romney's taxes  Obama may have to rename his big brother websites from fight the smears to start the smears. So much for all Barack's promises

Barry Soetoro is finished November 6, 2012 just 3 days before Cr-egg's descent into oblivion as Bond begins.
