I think many film studies majors approve of Cr-egg as Bond but not most traditionalists..

Yes, because film study majors love "irony" (note the "ironic" quotation marks). They love an anti-Bond Bond. There's a rule with those types that the more vacuous and meaningless a picture is, the more nihilistic and devoid of real value it is, the greater it must be. This approach has infected film criticism for years, since film studies people innevitably make up the bulk of the active critics out there. This is why Martin Scorcese has been getting glowing reviews for years for meaningless dreck like Raging Bull, Goodfellas and The Departed. These movies all are profane, full of unlikeable characters, and in the end, seem to have no point other than to say, "life sucks, and stuff . . ."

When the Bond films start doing the same sort of thing, it's no wonder it's popular with the critics. No EON payoffs needed. Having an unlikeable sociopathic thug playing as Bond is more than sufficient.
"For a moment Bond looked up into two glittering eyes behind a narrow black mask. There was an impression of a crag-like face under a hat brim, the collar of a fawn mackintosh." - Ian Fleming, Casino Royale

Favorite Bond Movie: My top 7 (or should I say, 007!): FYEO, FRWL, TWINE, NSNA, TLD, GE, OP
But really, any Bond film with Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton or Brosnan is fine.
Favorite Movies: Lawrence of Arabia, Silence of the Lambs, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, My Fair Lady, Beauty and the Beast, In Bruges, Ripley's Game, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Life of Brian, Dirty Harry

Eight films of this dull and depressing Craig era would be far too painful to endure, in my opinion. Craig could get tired of the role and want to move on to something else, and most importantly, it's up to audiences, not the producers, to decide how long Craig should keep playing Bond. Craig also isn't exactly aging that well. I don't care how physically fit he is, we still need to look at his face.

It feels like Craig has been Bond forever. And he has - 10 years. When will his Bond tenure end? His death?

Craig Could Be Longest Running Bond

Postby Omega » Fri Jul 25, 2014 5:17 pm

He doesn't seem to want to act in other movies so bond is good for the money. I do think if the next movies do a Spider-Man reboot kind of trajectory they will gladly replace him, IMO Babs is stuck on him because she was told no by so many and people listened to the fans upset by him at first.

If somehow sf wasn't Craig's moonraker for Bo and the next one makes as much and more of course the studio will want him to stay they wanted Brosnan to stay too, when it's a sure thing why f' it up? But For a fan who likes the bond as he was with Dalton and Brosnan it's a long time to wait.

We must get a private detective to follow Barbara to see if any young actors appear at her dinner parties on a regular basis.

However we would be tailing every plumber and electrician who visited.
