Re: Craig’s Post-Bond Career? Flat. Very Flat.
It amazes me that Craig continues to be cast as a lead in major tent-pole productions in Hollywood. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan never got a third as many choice roles thrown at them, and both are STILL more popular than Craig is with the wider public (and Craig has a built in advantage as the incumbent). When you take into account that most movies budgets really are severely understated (blockbusters typically spend as much on marketing as they do on the actual movie - the "official budget") then most of Daniel "Crag-like face's" major movies have been total flops.
So why does Crag-like Face keep getting choice roles? Are Hollywood producers so dumb that they keep giving Crag roles based on the fawning reviews Casino Royale got six years ago?

Well, if you look at his IMDb filmography, the only things listed for future release are Spyfail and Bond 24. Looks like the outside offers are drying up, which is probably bad news for us, as it makes him more likely to keep playing Bond until he's 85.

Re: Craig’s Post-Bond Career? Flat. Very Flat.
Well, maybe it is, because Craig's unpopularity with the public may be trickling into their assessment of his tenure as Bond. I recently took advantage of Amazon.com's trade-in program to sell a lot of DVDs I no longer wanted for Amazon gift cards. There was a lot of (non-Bond stuff) I got quite a lot of money for, but when it came to selling my CR and QOS DVDs (which I no longer needed, since I'm off the Craig kool-aid), Amazon offered me $1 or less for each! Just for s---s and giggles I saw what Amazon would give me if I were willing to sell my other Bond DVDs, which I'm not. In every case, for all five of the classic Bonds, I could have gotten $5-$10! Clearly, there's more demand for classic Bond DVDs than there is for Craig Bond DVDs. What's more, a lot of people must be trading in their Craig DVDs as I am, thereby glutting the market.FormerBondFan wrote:Comforting news, my @$$!007 wrote:That's comforting news.
Anyway, I take this fact as a good sign. Craig is (according to the market, at least) no more popular as Bond than David Niven.

Re: Craig’s Post-Bond Career? Flat. Very Flat.
Sold my blu-ray Bonds in anticipation of the collection this September $199 is dirt cheap for a Bond set even if I do not want the last two. All the classic Bond movies sold well significantly reducing the upgrade cost. It was a pleasant surprise they had been out and on sale so many times but the demand was still good.
CR and QOS/Quark were over produced, I forget the precise figure off hand but a DVD/Blu-ray is expected to sell a certain percentage of the gross, in Craig's case it never came close. Some of it was the changing market place, dvd dying slowly and blu-ray struggling to compensate, the other part is his Bond does not resonate with people enough to take the movie home regardless as they will do/ had done for Brozza and Connery. QOS sold I believe it was under 3 million copies, definitely under 4m and that was a slow climb, with lesser movies nipping at the heels or easily surpassing it -Mall Cop and Hanna Montana.
The point is they simply made too many of the discs to start with then the gray market flooded with people trying to off load them dropping the value of $24.99 movie down steeply over a few months. A fire sale so quickly after release hurts the studios bottom line, but they can always hope it somehow grew the fan base for the next movie release.

Well, you know, we haven't had a Canadian Bond yet, which isn't entirely fair, since Canada is part of the Commonwealth, and several Americans have either been hired (John Gavin) or seriously considered (James Brolin) to be Bond already.Thunderpussy wrote:Taylor Kitch a big Failure at the boxoffice, I think The green Veg has her next Bond.
To be fair, I haven't seen any of Kitch's work, so I really can't comment. But as I said before, I don't think an actor's popularity with audiences outside of Bond is a huge factor so long as they are following the classic Bond portrayal onscreen. Roger Moore was never a huge box office draw outside of Bond, and audiences loved him.

Re: Craig’s Post-Bond Career? Flat. Very Flat.
I can't think of any off the top of my head, particularly because American actors tend to be trained in the "method", which is all about character's emotions and inner thought lives, and less about mimicry as the British approach tends to be (the great Alec Guinness being a perfect example). Other than Robert Duvall and Meryl Streep, I can't think of any Americans who can inhabit widely disparate roles and look comfortable doing it. Heck, even Johnny Depp looked and sounded very uncomfortable being British in From Hell. Most American actors I like, such as Clint Eastwood, are essentially playing variations of the same character in all their films. I like that character in Eastwood's case, but that lack of range is a problem, since Bond must be British. If an American actor can't play Bond as British, then he shouldn't be hired. I am open to an American actor playing Bond, I simply can't think of any suitable names at this time.FormerBondFan wrote:If there is an American actor to play Bond, who would you choose?A Crag-like face wrote:Well, you know, we haven't had a Canadian Bond yet, which isn't entirely fair, since Canada is part of the Commonwealth, and several Americans have either been hired (John Gavin) or seriously considered (James Brolin) to be Bond already.

with Bond now drinking Henieken and having VW as a product placement, He's getting closer and closer to Austin Powers
So my choice would be Mike Meyers ( although I do know he's Canadian )

Captain Kirk? He's fine as Kirk. I don't think he'd be British enough to be Bond. I liked John Carter of Mars a lot, and I think it deserved to be a success. Nomally when a studio head gets fired after a box-office flop, it's more a symbolic sacrifice than anything, but in this case, the exec whose head was on the chopping block seems to have been directly responsible for the film's failure, talking it down while it was still in cinemas and ordering the title changed to the boring John Carter.A Crag-like face wrote: To be fair, I haven't seen any of Kitch's work, so I really can't comment.

I've mentioned this before, but we've had some new members since then. Around two years after QOS's release, I saw DVDs of it in the £3 bin at my local Morrisons supermarket, surrounded by old John Wayne films and others of similar vintage (no offence to any fans of The Duke here, I offer comment only on the age of his films, not their quality. Give me Rio Bravo over QOS any day).Mazer Rackham wrote:Sold my blu-ray Bonds in anticipation of the collection this September $199 is dirt cheap for a Bond set even if I do not want the last two. Meanwhile, QOS is on ITV1 Monday night, scheduled up against the massive Jubilee concert on BBC1, which suggests they've basically given up and are sticking it in a "dead" slot that they have no hope of winning. If it were the network TV premiere, I might believe they were making an effort, but this is the second or third time it's been on.

CR was tossed in the discount bin very shortly too, right next to Superman Returns. Simply pressed to many discs, the formula for purchase to attendance went out the window for those.Kristatos wrote:I've mentioned this before, but we've had some new members since then. By the way for any interested the Amazon 50th Blu-ray collection preorder dropped to $186.28 today. Plus they are including a hard cover book of Bond posters.

When The Hunt for Red October was mentioned, I am thinking I'd like to see the Pierce in a military thriller where he gets to wear a suave naval uniform... as Connery did in that month. Or even more cheeky, have Pierce as a naval officer in Hong Kong. He could even have his picture in the newspaper! (And btw, what happened to the iconic YOLT newspaper with "British Naval Commander ...."? If someone acquired the rights to reproduction, that would be a nice seller).
PPK - PB should've had his hair cut when he wore the uniform in TND. It looked silly peeking out from under his cap. Didn't they have a military advisor on the set? And of course, the HALO jump has already been mentioned here .... where it was conveniently forgotten the 60 degrees minus temp at 30,000 ft.
