Pierce Brosnan was the best 007

Post by rwp »

Sorry, Daniel Craig is not James Bond. He has no class, no charisma just a thug. Sean Connery was great but is very dated by the language ( slaps girl on bottom - time to leave this is Man Talk )
the # 1 007 James Bond is Pierce Brosnan. Classy,Charismatic :007:

Welcome to the forums rwp and agreed Brosnan was one of the best bonds, watching his bond films growing up was a privledge and exc final half of die another day were great, watching craigs bond makes me shake my head in disbelief, how can a lot of people accept a guy who said bonds below him and doesn't look the part or act it bond.

100% agree. And about P.Brosnan.. He was the best. There is some attracting negligence in his look. Something charming and alerting at the same time. That's real Bond!

I guess that could be consider a causal look, that how I take it any way. it was obvious pierce was at ease in the role. As sean and roger moore were.

If Pierce Brosnan had played Bond like he did in the Cuba scenes in DAD in the rest of the flicks, sure, he might have made a pretty good Bond I think.

Hey Stocks good to see ya!
I do think Brosnan's 5th could of been great. With DAD he did more with Bond than they would let him in TWINE & TND. GE I think was excellent as a introduction to his BOND. I am looking forward to the jetpacks needless reintroduction for the 50th ;) I sure they will go for the water jetpack as it is environmentally friendly.

I always thought Brosnan Deserved a 5th outing. I still wonder how CR would of looked if Tarintino had of gotten involved.

IMO, while Brosnan put a good performance in parts of DAD, it was too little too late. Which is a shame. I like Brosnan a lot in a great many other flicks. But as Bond it seemed the weight of the role compromised his performance. In GE he's stiff and boring, too much mugging for the camera and trying to hard to play it smooth making his performance artificial. More boyish than manly. In TND he's a little more relaxed and it was nice that he put on some weigh but still stiff and boring. I thought he was awful in TWINE, without a doubt his worst performance as Bond. Tried way too hard to pull off the drama and the script by Bruce Feirstein only made things worse having Bond fall in love for a one night stand. Give me a break.

But in DAD it's like his character finally grew balls and adopted a more no nonsense attitude that helped give him an edge. He manned up. This is the Bond performance we should have seen in his debut. Too bad the film was so awful that its reputation overshadows his performance so rarely does anyone take notice of his effort.

Brosnan's the best, IMO! Too bad, they stupidly selected Daniel Craig which I think killed James Bond for me. I look forward to the day they replace Craig!

Brosnan displayed a more Bondian edge with After the Sunset and he was more confident in The Thomas Crown Affair. He needed a Peter Hunt who knew what a Bond story should be, and a John Barry, because without such a composer, Bond movies, and movies in general lose effectiveness; so much that I call the composer the supporting actor. In Barry's case he should've received an Oscar.

That's a great point. The fill-in composers during Barry's reign (Martin, Hamlish and Conti) all managed to do a pretty good job, but since Barry left the series the music really hasn't been up to par at all. Kamen, Serra and Arnold don't bring the same disntictive combination of suspense, stirring heroism and glamor that Barry brought film after film. Based on his previous work, I have no real hope for Thomas Newman either. Most of his stuff sounds like a less energetic version of Yanni, which is really saying something.

Never Say Never is a different movies with a better music too important to leave to chance Mendes got his choice Arnold does a decent job but Arnold's non Bond is better than his Bond work so he is not irreplaceable.I got doubts about the new guy the trailer's music was bad.

They need a Christopher Nolan of film scores, someone who understands that Bond needs beautiful melodies, full orchestrations with unique bits, for example, the electric bass in OHMSS; the acoustic guitars along Louis Armstrong, and don't forget those french horns! Even the rather generic DAF theme is way above the current films. And it wouldn't hurt to have a singer with real pipes.

Oh, I heard a version of the Beatles' In My Life, and it has an intro with Connery with instrumental in background, and then launches into the original version. Connery shays the lyrics, doesn't sing them.

Should Nolan direct a Bond, I would have high hopes he would find a Bond composer. Again, the composer, especially in a Bond film, is one of the characters in the film. He should be the best supporting actor.

I disagree, Nolan's use of music is perhaps the only thing I don't like about him as a director. TDKR was an improvement, he seems to have learned that not every scene needs blaring music, but I found the score very intrusive in both TDK and Inception.
