Both the reboots appealed to fans who were bored with the recent movies on the franchises.
That's probably true although Trekkies were a little more sniffy than the casual fans when dissecting the recent Star Trek film.
'She looked sharply up at him. 'And who might you be?'

'My name's Bond, James Bond'.

Casino Royale

While Star Trek is mindless fun as a film on its own, this is really the wrong direction for the franchise. Star Trek has the potential to do so much more than resort to low brow sci-fi. That level works best for Star Wars, not Star Trek.

Deep Space Nine for example shows the potential the franchise can take, but the film takes the easy route.

I'm a Trek and Bond nerd, it's an insane combination to say the least.
