When you say `these people', I guess you are referring to 99.9% of people on this planet who have seen CR, right?

It might be pushing it to suggest that 99.9% of people who saw CR thought it was brilliant. I know a lot of intelligent Bond fans who thought CR was more Jason Statham than Ian Fleming.

Casino Royale is without question the most overhyped and overrated James Bond film ever made. It is neither a satisfying action film or a 'blue-chip' Bond entry to rank alongside OHMSS, Goldfinger or FRWL.

The charmless Daniel Craig makes for a bland one-note 007, glum, morose, and humourless. The reboot, which I was always in favour of, failed to transpire in this film. Instead we had a low IQ 38 year-old who didn't seem to know how a vodka-martini could be prepared and had to get a woman to give him a sense of fashion. Did I believe Craig's 007 was an Oxford man and Royal Navy Commander? A big issue seller perhaps but not anything else.

Eon, almost completely bereft of ideas in the last era of 007 pictures, luckily had something to help them this time around. An Ian Fleming novel and two Jason Bourne films. Both were shunted together like two seperate cars and wheeled out. So the handsome, refined, supercool 007 has gone for the moment. I hope he comes back one day because I can get everyday, mundane heroes leaping around in tattered shirts elsewhere.

007 was always much more than that.

No. I was pointing out that I know some very big James Bond fans with collections worth a lot of money who regard Craig and CR with polite indifference.

to me Casino was was not Bond. I'll give mini review if nobody minds.

In the beginning- The first kills in Black & White seemed like good start. Too amateurish to be Bond, this is billed as Bond Begins so what the hey. unimpressive kills to earn the license to kill. Bond begins, boy is this going to be a long ride.
Chasing a dangerous man who must be taken alive only to be killed for no reason, the explanations are best left for the birds who think this up.
Stunts are great, over done but great. The runner would be good comic book foil. Bond running through a wall is too grotesque to mention.
Bond's cover being blown by the "incident" at the embassy is way too early in his career.
Bond and M interaction is the worst I've seen. Bond always had respect for M, where has that gone to? Is this just some play to the gen X,Y,Z crowd?

The Bond girls have suffered budget cuts, 2 nice girls but Bond never gets past the foreplay with one of them. Vesper left a lot to be desired as the main Bond girl. The emotional connection: I couldn't feel it. I tried to. I watched the movie twice on DVD.

The love story was a wash for me and the poker was too broken up to suit. For me the casino didn't have the luxurious feel the other movies do.
The super car only appearing for the shortest time on record is lame. No gadgets was a disappointment too.

The torture, to me was as unBond like as it gets. Not the torture specify, how Bond reacted was out of character more than the other parts of this movie.
The city crumbling and Vespers meaningless death go hand and hand and all I got to ask is "why?"

Casino left me feeling unfulfilled. A first for Bond movie. I don't claim the other Bond movies were perfect but there was always something the entertaining about it making the movie worthwhile.

Bond begins, We should have Bond ends first, then move on to the origin story that Casino couldn't deliver on.

I think the torture scence was unBond like because it had none of style of the Fleming chapter and Daniel Craig looks nothing like Bond.

Bond was tied up, screaming and tortured in both film and novel, and it's difficult to convey Bond's interior monologue on film.

Well the torture scene in CR novel was in the chapter called My Dear Boy. I don't recall Bond telling Le Chiffre that he'll be known for scratching his balls. I just went into the dresser and got the book in front of me. I'm skimming through it now and don't see it anyway. The room, the hole in the chair is accurate. Bond talking smack isn't.

I am knew to this forum and,indeed, to this entire site. I am a life long bond fan having read the books and seen the films in the cinema since 1979.
That said, I have seen a lot of criticism thrown at the bond films throughout the years but never have I seen such a vitriolic and unsubstantiated attack on the leading actor as I have seen here on this site.
Wot are you trying to achieve? You don't like Craig. Live with it. People didn't like Moore or Dalton. Still made money and lots of us liked them.
Casino Royale made more money than any of the past Bonds so I think the concensus is with the paying public. Craig is a superb Bond and you lot gotta live with it cos the general public want to.
This site's pathetic attack on Craig (portraying him as a monkey in your sad "artwork") is really sad.
You lot are a tiny minority.
The world has sat and watched Casino Royale and passed it (generally) as the best Bond ever made. I concur.
Attacks on people's appearance harks back to the squalid victorian days.
Craig is a brilliant actor who made Bond his own.
Is he ugly? If you think so, so what? He's Bond and proved it. To the millions of paying cinema-goers and critics alike.
It's just you lot, stewing in your own "he's not handsome enough" world that are the losers. Bond has moved on. Why can't you all do the same?
Oh, and looking at one of the articles on this site, Casino Royale does have a tremendous amount in common with the book. Research!!

You've clutched at straws there with that handful of desperate points as to why CR is nothing remotely like the novel.

The novel had to be updated to modern audiences - hence why some of those changes were enforced.

But the essence of the novel remains more or less in tact for the second part of the movie. If you think it doesn't, then perhaps you are in denial, or living in a tiny bubble.
