Dispelling misinformation
Dispelling misinformation
Bond was not introduced as a rookie 007 in the novel Casino Royale, contrary to Craigspin. Just because Casino Royale is the first novel does not make it the first adventure of Bond. Therefore one cannot justify his portrayal in the film as true to the book.

Re: Dispelling misinformation
This is so true. It may be one of the few book series that do not establish the character as he starts his new job which is an anomaly for movies that tend to start before day one and follow him through his first mission to where he becomes the hero we expect him to be: Batman, Spider-man, Hulk, Star Trek, Wolverine, all of the successful origin stories.

I'm still do not know if Craig was supposed to be a rookie Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. Many people suggested he was not especially as regards to QOS.

Re: Dispelling misinformation
We've done this to death but it was fairly laughable to suggest that the rookie Bond looked like a 53 year old Daniel Craig. Thank heavens Ian Fleming wasn't around to witness this.

Re: Dispelling misinformation
Campbell and Haggis said Bond would be 28 in CR and it was written for a younger Bond. In the end they changed Bond's DOB on the official site to fit Craig's real age. A gigantic compromise in the end really.Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:I'm still do not know if Craig was supposed to be a rookie Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. There is NO way they could have gotten away with saying Bond was 28 with Craig playing himCampbell and Haggis said Bond would be 28 in CR and it was written for a younger Bond. In the end they changed Bond's DOB on the official site to fit Craig's real age. A gigantic compromise in the end really.

Makes you wonder why they tested all those young actors if a 64 year old Daniel Craig had the job in the bag anyway.John Drake wrote:Campbell and Haggis said Bond would be 28 in CR and it was written for a younger Bond. Re: Dispelling misinformation
They did it to make Craig look like a better candidate. It was easy for them to say the others were too young. Why not test actors more in Craig's age range?007 wrote:Makes you wonder why they tested all those young actors if a 64 year old Daniel Craig had the job in the bag anyway.John Drake wrote:Campbell and Haggis said Bond would be 28 in CR and it was written for a younger Bond. Re: Dispelling misinformation
IMO they walk a fine line between a Bond who is just the right age and someone who is going to look too old after only a few years. EON would do well to consider this next time around(oh wait..Babs is in charge. Never mind. )

Actually, Tim Burton's Batman didn't bother with an origin story, and neither did Star Trek until recently.Omega wrote:This is so true. Re: Dispelling misinformation
I was thinking of the more recent Batmans. Burton's Batman was a origin story of sorts. The Joker created him and he created the Joker. It didn't get in to the guts of the story but it did reintroduce Batman with a fresh slate.Kristatos wrote:Actually, Tim Burton's Batman didn't bother with an origin story, and neither did Star Trek until recently.Omega wrote:This is so true.
