The James Bond film Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig is a fine actor but even in a dinner jacket he still manages to look like a hod-carrying navvy from Runcorn, not a secret agent. What happened to the witty scripts, the John Barry music and the exotic romance of the first few films? And why are there not good baddies anymore? The whole thing is now a giant car advert, designed for a nation addicted to Top Gear.

Agreed on the baddies thing. Greene was,how shall we say, a rather lame villain.James wrote:http://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/arti ... p?id=10563

Bond hasn't always been the critics' favorite(stating the obvious,I know...)Some critics are impervious to the charm of Bond films .It's called an opinion.
They shouldn't be afraid to criticise even if it means they get lots of hate mail from nerdy Bond fans. Look at Empire and Total Film. They criticize the Bond films a LOT.That has made them very unpopular with Bond nerds.

What I miss is the fun. Casino Royale was a dull movie. Quantum of Solace was more action oriented but again it wasn't fun. I watched all of the recent Bond movies from Dalton to Brosnan not long ago and they were fun. Sometimes bordering on the ridiculous. But every moment enjoyable. Casino Royale was the first one I felt was dragging on and on. Making wisecracks to pass the time. I feel everything described above is missing and the reason the movies are less enjoyable now.James wrote:http://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/arti ... p?id=10563
