Bond has lost his charm
Every since I was old enough to stay up at night I was immersed in the world of James Bond. He was the dashing hero with the crooked grin and clever line for every occasion. Trailed by females in varied degrees of infatuation he breezed by in his high tech cars which he never bothered reading the manual for much to M's disgust. He was sauve sipping his shaken martinis while eying the pretty girls, always managing to solve the crisis while wrapped in some female fatales arms.
But this has all changed.
To be fair it didn't start with Quantum of Solace it was Casino Royale that brought in the new era of James bond. No more charming and suggestive lines were heard, merely a almost brutal and unemotional approach to his mission and the inevitable females that accompanied it. While this may have been unnoticed by some, I am sure many have remarked on the curious change of character, a more morose and robotic James has emerged. This wouldn't seem so wrong if one hadn't grown up with the hundreds of witty lines (okay dorky lines) and charming smiles that used to be the Bond signature. That of course coupled with the ability to sleep/snog with every pretty girl, (well that hasn't really changed here, it just seems less likely unless they like the cold brooding type.)
Well enough of my rant on his Dr. Jekyll act and on with the movie review.
The movie starts off where Casino Royale left off with the capture of Mr. White a member of the secret organization Quantum. A high speed car chase through the Italian hills follows as Bond tries to bring Mr. White in for questioning. However Mr. White ecapes with the aid of M's bodyguard Mitchell, a corrupted agent.
Bond pursues and kills the corrupted agent, but after heading to Haiti to track down and kill Mitchell's contact, he uncovers a much bigger plot involving a ecological organization called Greene Planet.
However his loyalties are being questioned and M has Bond's passports and credit cards revoked, so he is now on his own. Will he be able to bring Greene Planet down before they enact their evil plot? And what exactly is their evil plot?
As expected Daniel Craig walked around looking like a East European boxer with his finger too quick on the trigger. His ability to make the Secret Agent sent to bring him in fall into bed with him after a pick up line involving stationary is simply amazingly unreal.
Olga Kurylenko plays her part as a woman bent on revenge very well, and she gets extra points for not falling into Bond's arms.
Judi Dench delivered a superb performance as usual, and was one of the most convincing parts played.
Mathieu Amalric was a little unconvincing as a super bad, but then again maybe it was the absence of white cats and shark tanks.
Personally I felt the movie was too fast paced, don't get me wrong I like a good action movie, but sometimes it was hard to know what was going on. The choppy filming and skipping from one scene to the next, was a little too confusing. Also there was no humour, you almost expect some corny lines but here there was none to be found.
It was good as a action film but for a legend like Bond it was missing something.

Bond had lost his charm in 2005. I guess the last film made it too painful to ignore.
Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

People were willing to take CR as a one time, one off moive, but the loan of their faith required the next movie to get back to being Bond. It didn't and the glaringly wrong approach to Bond has become the elephant in the room.

This is one of the few places that we can talk about that elephant in the room and not worry about the repurcussions.

I'm surprised Dcinb hasn't made more use of this sentiment and better use of the site. I know the nutty Auntie who pisses herself in public embarrassed everyone here and hurt the sound foundation of the idea that Daniel Craig is not Bond. A sentiment that has been proven to be correct. Thanks in large part to Craig himself. Although we should acknowledge that he was completely backup by the blind adulation and support of his oldest fangirl, Babs

The tide is starting to turn. The sales figures of QOS are one indicator.
There are places it's not OK to say you don't like Daniel Craig, this place and Alternative James Bond. for another,I'm sure with some Googling you could find others.
Otherwise, going on a Bond board and saying you think Daniel Craig is a sucky Bond is a bad idea(to say the least )

You praised Daniel Craig on the MI6 forum and gave QOS a good review!katied wrote:Indeed! And yet some still try to tell us we're wrong
It's nice to see that some people are defecting to the winning side in the later stages of this war.
Bring back Bond!

I haven't give in to the pressure to buy a copy of QOS like a "true" Bond fan should, nor will I
