Craig is playing the pirate Red Rackham, so all those saying that he should play a villain will get their wish. Interestingly, Joe Cornish is one of the screenwriters, which could lead to some awkward moments on set if they meet and Craig asks Cornish to explain that little ditty of his (the one beginning "he's got a gun and great big man-tits").

I think they are CGI-ing some Herge style drawing's over the characters' faces so those offended by Daniel Craig's face may be ok. And Red Rackham has long black hair and a beard. And he is hardly in the book.
What I'm trying to say is BJ may be safe if he wants to watch the film!

Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
I was looking forwards to seeing the Tintin movie. Now, not so much
Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
I believe that it will be motion capture animation like the Beowulf movie, where they somehow managed to make Ray Winstone into a ripped, muscular action hero. Wish they'd motion capture Craig to make him look like Bond.carl stromberg wrote:I think they are CGI-ing some Herge style drawing's over the characters' faces so those offended by Daniel Craig's face may be ok. From what I heard, that Beowulf movie looked like a bad video game

Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
I'm glad to see another big actor for the film, but I worry how good it will be. Plus, many Americans probably won't like it despite its support from Spielberg. Didn't the actor that was going to play Tintin back out?
Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
Also, what percentage of Americans, unless they grew up in the UK or Europe knows of Tin Tin? I've heard of them(they a have a bunch of the Tin Tin comics in several collections in Barnes and Noble but I knew about them before that. I've been mulling over whether to get them for my nephew for his birthday(he'll be 11) )

Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
Back in the 90s, Nickelodeon used to air The Adventures of Tintin. I still have an old recording of an episode somewhere on VHS. So if anyone will remember it in America, it'll most likely be those who were kids during the 90s. Even then, I don't think it ever managed to become a hit, especially since only 39 episodes were ever produced.
Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
I remember the TV cartoons growing up in the 70s (not sure if these were the same ones). Incidentally, can anyone find a picture of Craig's character, Red Rackham? I can't remember what he looks like, and a Google image search turned up nothing.stockslivevan wrote:Back in the 90s, Nickelodeon used to air The Adventures of Tintin. Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
They made some odd cartoons ages ago. The newer Adventures of Tintin prog that Stocks mentioned were quite faithful to the books - although Tintin did have an American accent!
I can't find a pic of Red Rackham, but he looks a bit like Basil Rathbone or Errol Flynn in Robin Hood with a pointy beard. Red Rackham is not in the book (Secret of The Unicorn) much.
I hoped they would make a live action film as I am not of fan of CGI "cartoon" films. But I have to see some stills or footage before I decide.
If the film is a success Tintin amy become even more popular.

I'll wait to see what they do..but the fact it's CGI-heavy makes me(understandably) wary. The Alvin and The Chipmunks movie, anyone?
Re: Daniel Craig joins cast of Tintin movie
With Spielberg producing and Jackson directing, I'm sure it will break new ground in CGI animation. And with a script by Steven Moffatt, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, I wouldn't really care if it looked like an episode of Bod.carl stromberg wrote:I hoped they would make a live action film as I am not of fan of CGI "cartoon" films. You're right about Craig. I'm totally partial because I can't swallow the current evolution of Bond towards Bourne/Rambo. Objectively, Craig as Rackham can be an amusing idea (better than Craig as Tintin, which wouldn't have surprised me after the Bond changes). But I just won't have the objectivity to look at him without overwhelming Bond grudges
That said, while the neo-Bond is cleverly designed to fit the current fashion and thus meets an expectable success (raising the old problem of diversity-killing competition), I've seen only bad reviews of Quantum. Seems they might have overdone it a bit there. I think it'll grow tedious fast. Casino Royale's success probably came from the mostly faithful story and the return to spying plot, but these aspects are easily negated by the inhumane grunt approach to Bond.
Thundering typhoons! They know their stuff those Tintin fans.

I could see a few heads at MI6 or CBn exploding over this comment:
The last Pierce Brosnan film was much closer to the flavour of Fleming’s Bond than the sub-Bourne automaton that Craig has played so far.

I doubt anyone will explode over that ridiculous comment....except with laughter maybe. Even you guys here can't agree that DAD is closer to Fleming than CR (despite the leading man) ....surely not!

Dud Another Day has its defenders....but I can't see them being upset by a comment like that unless they were very very sensitive(I have been wrong before, though )
