What is it with Bond DVDs and crappy box art?

I'm not sure when exactly the slide started but the Brosnan era art was fairly ropey too. The Bond art used to really inventive and fun in the old days.

Looks more like a Steven Seagal movie to me.

I say the last good Bond poster was TLD's

After that the posters were either decent or utterly horrible.

And contrast that design with the awful US Licence To Kill art that followed in 1989. For some reason Bond posters turned into a crappy collage.

I still can't believe that was approved. That tacked on photo of the Bond girls is the worst part.

And then the fashion for chrome lettering, which became such a cliche in '90s movie posters (not just Bond). I got tired of seeing it.

I really like the old Connery poster art. I wish they would have used it on the DVDs and not the stuff they dug up for the 90's dvds

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

I actually think the posters starting from YOLT were utterly stupid. Posing with a astronaut helmet in a tux? Skiing in a tux? Retarded.

Now THIS is a poster.

Simple yet effective.

It's actually a cropped image of Connery trying to whack Oddjob with the wooden object.

I think the Connery posters were a collaboration between Robert McGinnis and Frank McCarthy:

http://www.cinemaretro.com/index.php?/archives/1896-NEW-DVD-DOCUMENTARY-ON-LEGENDARY-MOVIE-POSTER-ARTIST-ROBERT-MCGINNIS.html

The year 1965 brought the world of James Bond to Bob’s studio. Chief of United Artists publicity Don Smolen commissioned McGinnis and fellow artist Frank McCarthy to create art images for Thunderball. Said Smolen “If you wanted beautiful women in Bond posters, there was only one man- Bob McGinnis.” McCarthy painted the action images and McGinnis painted the women
'She looked sharply up at him. 'And who might you be?'

'My name's Bond, James Bond'.

For the amount of money you have to pay(for the special edition, anyways)you'd think they could come up with a better cover :P

The DAF poster certainly screams Vegas circa 1971.
