QUANTUM DVD Gives No Solace to 007 Fans

Aside from an unfortunately accident-prone production, some of the most intriguing news to come out of the "Quantum of Solace" shoot involved director Marc Forster's assertion that he had shot an alternate ending to the film. The one minute sequence would have set up the next film in the series – as the end of "Casino Royale" set up the action in "Quantum" – creating a built in trilogy.
Forster revealed this little tid-bit during press interviews promoting "Quantum of Solace" and asserted that fans would be able to see the deleted scene when the film hit DVD/Blu-Ray in 2009. So how come I'm looking at a list of the DVD special features right now and I'm seeing no mention of any "deleted scene"??
According to the press release, "Quantum of Solace" will be released on both DVD and Blu-Ray on March 24th. Consumers will also be able to choose between a one-disk package and a Special Edition two-disk version. Here are the list of features the MGM/Fox Home Entertainment announcement listed:
Single-Disc DVD Special Features:
"Another Way to Die" Music Video
Theatrical Trailers
Two-Disc Special Edition DVD Special Features:
Includes all of the above single-disc content plus additional bonus features:
"Bond on Location" 24-minute special feature
Start of Shooting
On Location
Olga Kurylenko and the Boat Chase
Director Marc Forster
The Music
Crew Files
They have two-disks to fill and the best thing they can come up with is some "on location" crap? No audio commentary, no interactive stuff, nothing that mentions the history of the James Bond franchise?? And don't even get me started on that deleted scene. I clearly recall the day that particular bit of news hit the internet – it was BIG. Then later, when Daniel Craig was asked whether the next installment would be part of a trilogy and he said "No f**king way. I'm done with that story" the allure of that missing ending became even stronger.
Could it be that after spending so much to make "Quantum of Solace" (something like 200 million) the studios just aren't willing to spend any extra money on the DVD? Aren't they ashamed that one of the highest grossing films of the year is going out to DVD with bargain-basement extra options? Like it or not, the days when a DVD could get by with only a music video and trailer feature are long gone. When we're paying to own a movie that most of us have already seen we expect the DVD to bring it - especially when the director has already promised us the goods.

I think they want you to forget that the James Bond franchise has a history.
"He's the one that doesn't smile" - Queen Elizabeth II on Daniel Craig
Pretty weak on several people's parts..at least this time they're giving people the option to buy one or two discs, instead of trying to do the moneymaking thing of putting out a crap DVD with hardly any features on it, and then a special edition a year or so later.
I'm just going to rent it and use DVD Shrink to make a copy so that I don't have to pay for a film that is obviously going to get a "Collector's Edition" with the release of Bond 23. At least by then I'll get my money's worth. And 30 bucks for a single disc edition?

The dvd has been out on the internet since Nov. Bad business not to include extra features.

Looks like DAD will be their last good dvd release. It came packed with extras and two discs at one low price. I think I picked up DAD for $12 at walmart on the day it was released. No matter what you think of the movie the first dvd release gave good value.
One thing that gets me upset with Hollywood is all these dvd re-releases and now crappy dvds with no extras and they want $10 more for a 2nd disc with the extras.
Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.
I like Daniel Craig as bond i just joined the forum just in case i get bored on the david tennant forum and also who ever made john barrowman on the pics in the pics section of this website the girls on the david tennant forum really loved them.

*This*.
DAD isn't the best Bond movie but a sad comment on Bond films and the way they're marketed on DVD that *it* was the last good DVD release.
