QOS Earns 7 BAFTA Nominations

Quantum of Honors
Dench, sequel on BAFTA's longlist.
by Jim Vejvoda

January 8, 2009 - The British Academy Film Awards have honored the 22nd James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, with seven spots on its longlist of award contenders.

QoS earned six technical nominations on the longlist: best sound, editing (Matt Chesse and Richard Pearson), production design (Dennis Gassner), cinematography (Roberto Schaefer), and music (David Arnold).

Judi Dench made the cut in the best supporting actress category for her portrayal of Bond's boss "M". Dench has been nominated for a slew of BAFTA Film Awards in the past but this is the first time she has been nominated for a Bond movie. Quantum of Solace marked her sixth time playing "M" in a Bond film. Dench previously won BAFTA film awards for A Room With a View, Mrs. Brown, Shakespeare in Love, and Iris.

I can kind of see nominating Dame Judi-not that she'll get it, mind you.

The Best Editing nomination is beyond satire. I agree with the one for Dennis Gassner's production design - pity Forster's direction meant we hardly got to see it.

Bafta are saying Daniel Craig's performance in Qunatum of Solace was not very good.

Craig's performance was not even close to being BAFTA-worthy.

I can understand the noms for cinematography and Dench. The rest I either don't care too much about and that editing nom. I don't think it's terrible, but it's definitely not worthy of a nom.

So Craig's films get BAFTAs while Brosnan's got Razzies. It's a fair world afterall isn't it Sweeney.

I certainly did. Looks like many reviews put Craig's new film on par with Brosnan's films.

My, how he has fallen.....
