Avengers:Infinity War
TOMATOMETER

86%
Average Rating: 7.6/10
Reviews Counted: 119
Fresh: 102
Rotten: 17------------The latest Avengers blockbuster is getting almost as many raves as it has superheroes, with one critic calling it "a supremely entertaining showdown". Avengers: Infinity War, writes The Guardian's reviewer, is an "utterly confident comic-book movie mash-up."
Featuring most of the characters from the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), it shows Iron Man, Black Panther et al unite against an apocalyptic threat. Variety says the result - out in the UK on Thursday - is "bedazzling fun".

I'm looking forward to seeing it, though I wonder if it might be a bit overcrowded with the Avengers (now including Spider.Man) and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Each character must only get about a minute of screen time!

Tracking puts the latest Marvel title at potentially opening to half a billion globally.

Deadline puts the number at $498 million to be exact, split between domestic and international ticket sales (with a domestic haul around $235 or so).

The current domestic opening weekend record-holder is Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.9 million), which Infinity War has an outside chance of topping.

Fandango says early ticket sales are double that of Black Panther and currently outpacing the last seven Marvel Cinematic Universe movies … combined.

If Infinity War "only" makes $400 million on its opening weekend, will it be judged a dismal failure, with endless articles dissecting the reasons why it didn't perform as expected?

We are planning to go this weekend, if the timing works out. I’m excited to see this. And Deadpool 2. I don’t care about solo because I’m expecting it to suck.

Bit skint at the moment (the ups and downs of being married to a self-employed sole trader), so probably won't be seeing this at the cinema. Meanwhile, Karen Gillan (Nebula in the film) is getting good reviews for her debut feature as writer-director, The Party's Just Beginning. The subject matter sounds a bit depressing, a young woman trying to cope with her best friend's suicide. But I like Gillan as an actress, so I'm interested to see how she does behind the camera.

Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War delivered a massive $39 million from Thursday evening previews last night. The performance is the fourth largest Thursday night preview ever and the largest for any film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ahead of Captain America: Civil War ($25M), Black Panther ($25.2M) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M). In addition to its domestic start, the film has now brought in $95 million in its first two days in international release from 43 markets.

Industry estimates have Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War at $106.7M Friday (including that $39M Thursday night) and $245.6M over three days, which would put the pic second behind Star Wars: Force Awakens record opening of $247.9M............after the actuals are finalized, it might be the biggest ever :!: Internationally, Infinity War's overseas gross has now grown to an estimated $178.5 million after three days in release.

I think it’ll be more than $250, the first showing today was crowded, and just about everyone stayed for the final end credit scene with Sam Jackson. Last night/ late afternoon we skipped the showing because the parking lot was crowded .

Btw I’d like any of these last Jedi defenders to watch infinity war and tell me that in comparison last Jedi isn’t a turd of a movie. Infinity war is what last Jedi should have been, hell could have been it’s the same d**n studio

Initial projections were that it would open just a tad below The Force Awakens, though it seems to have exceeded it. I doubt it'll change my opinion of The Last Jedi. As I said at the time, subsequent viewings are more likely to do that.

That's more than most films make in their entire runs! What's surprising is that even if you adjust for inflation, it's still the second-biggest opening weekend of all time, just narrowly beaten by The Force Awakens. Normally, inflation-adjusted charts correct the bias towards newer movies.

it is amazing, guess the monster sized Disney bo where $1 & 2 billion are SOP it gets easy to forget how many movie struggle to hit $300 million and $600-800 million if theyre a surprise hit.

what I mean, without spoiling it too much, is both films do the same thing, have the same objective far as the story goes.
Avengers is enjoyable and the audience accepts where the movie ends with enthusiastic expectations about where the next movies will take us, last Jedi fails entirely and Miserably far as the next excitement for the next installment goes, and for a percentage of fans like me TLJ killed our anticipation for the next movies.
There is a review in the guardian where the reviewer gushes about TLJ, but admits some small faults in TLJ make avengers more successful with fan enthusiasm and stronger bo.
