Dame Shirley sings QOS
Dame Shirley sings QOS
This was posted on YouTube as a rejected theme for QOS, which I'm not sure is accurate. It's actually a track from Burly Chassis's latest album, set to the main titles from QOS, but it does seem to tie in lyrically (eg. "Where is the solace that I crave"). Anyway, enjoy:

Thing is, I *like* the White Stripes/Jack White..but AWTD gets a from me.Omega wrote:Way better than the song by Jack 'n' Alicia

I like the White Stripes too. I may even have liked AWTD had it been released as a stand-alone single, preferably without Alicia Keys, ahem, contribution. I just don't think it works as a theme song.katied wrote:Thing is, I *like* the White Stripes/Jack White..but AWTD gets a from me.Omega wrote:Way better than the song by Jack 'n' Alicia

Exactly. If it had been a straight up White Stripes song, I would have loved it.I like the White Stripes too. I may even have liked AWTD had it been released as a stand-alone single, preferably without Alicia Keys, ahem, contribution. I just don't think it works as a theme song.

I just found out that the lyrics to the Shirley Bassey song were by Don Black. It rather gives credence to the theory that it was a rejected theme from QOS. Another bad creative decision from EON?

Of course! Like so many other bad decisions they've made.

Who is Don Black and why would his writing this be proof that they rejected the song?Kristatos wrote:I just found out that the lyrics to the Shirley Bassey song were by Don Black. It rather gives credence to the theory that it was a rejected theme from QOS. Another bad creative decision from EON?

Re: Dame Shirley sings QOS
Don Black is the lyricist for many of the Bond themes from Thunderball to TWINE. A song by Arnold and Black, sung by Shirley Bassey which includes the word "solace" in the first line and is all about loss and grief? It doesn't prove conclusively that it was a rejected QOS theme, but it seems like one hell of a coincidence.Omega wrote:Who is Don Black and why would his writing this be proof that they rejected the song?Kristatos wrote:I just found out that the lyrics to the Shirley Bassey song were by Don Black. I'm still wondering why they thought Keys 'n' white screamed "current and up to date" to audiences.

It does seem like it was rejected another colossal screw up on their part

Re: Dame Shirley sings QOS
It seems like EON likes to go for(supposedly) "current and now" artists. I'd like to see some struggling musician who's been working the clubs for years get a chance, rather than someone who's washed up(like, say, Amy Winehouse, not that she will eve be in consideration, mind you)

you know what is sad I saw another interview where Berry basically siad they will not use again Shirley Bassey because that would be old school and they will not movie Bond backwards. This was good theme song even if it was never intended to be one.
guess it comes down to thye couldn't have resold coke the rights to this song in a lame ad.

Ouch Too bad that they think Dame Shirley is too "old school".Dr. No wrote:you know what is sad I saw another interview where Berry basically siad they will not use again Shirley Bassey because that would be old school and they will not movie Bond backwards. Crap song, even worse than DAD. Though what do you expect from David Arnold?
