A very underrated film in my opinion.

I remember reading an article about it in a magazine once and it suggested that casting an unknown lead killed the film. I suppose it would have been a much more famous film with Harrison Ford or whoever.

IMDb says that Johnny Depp was approached, but I'm not sure that he was much bigger than Bill Campbell back in 1991. He only became a huge star with the Pirates franchise, before that, he was mostly known for more offbeat fare like Edward Scissorhands.

I remember the article (it was a Starburst style film magazine) said that Campbell was best known for playing a gay love interest in Dynasty (or The Colbys?) and was considered a bizarre choice to carry a big summer film. I didn't think he was that bad but the film was clearly one of Timothy Dalton's finest hours.
