Prince William watched Bond movie certified 15 at age 8

Post by Blowfeld »

London, Feb 6 (ANI): Prince William is said to have watched a violent Bond film that was rated as suitable for those above 15 at the age of 8.

William, 27, had been given the 007 movie 'Licence To Kill', in which a villain's head explodes, another is crushed by an industrial grinder and a third is impaled on a forklift, by his chauffeur Stephen Davies.

Davies, who knew the Prince was a big fan of the secret agent, gave him the blockbuster as a birthday present.

William is said to have sent Davies, who worked for the Royal Family during the 1980s and 1990s, a thank you letter.

"Dear Steve, Thank you for the James Bond video, it is brilliant. Thank you. See you soon. With love from William," the Sun quoted the letter as stating.

The British Board of Film Classification confirmed it is not illegal for under-age children to watch 15 films at home. It is only illegal for them to see it in a cinema or rent a video.

Davies kept all the letters and cards that were sent to him by Charles, Diana, Harry and Wills and is putting up them for auction.

A letter from Prince Harry about a present said: "I love the video and sweets. Love from Harry".

The letters, which also include a Christmas card from Harry, are to be sold at auction on February 13. They are expected to fetch 900 pounds each.

"The letters paint a lovely picture, especially of Prince William watching the James Bond film," Richard Davie, from International Autograph Auctions, said.

"Letters from Prince William are rare and don't come on the market very often," he added. (ANI)

I do hope the monarchy doesn't fall apart after this revelation.
Lucky for Prince William he got to see one of the better Bond films. Who knows he may even post on one of the James Bond message boards.
Though would he be a Mi6, a CBn, a alt.OO7 or a dcinb'er?
Can't see him disliking Craig, so I'd put him down for Mi6 or CBn.

William and Harry are probably here ;)
The royal family are very particular about their Bonds
"There's only one Bond," Harry, according to People, told a military vet outside. "Sean Connery."

Parents who let young children watch 15 and 18 rated films piss me off. I'm surprised at Charles, given his stuffy reputation.

I don't think it was prince charles in this case, if they had allowed the moives in the house he would have already had them.
I think the driver did a end run around the parents and gave the kid a nice cheap gift that he'd enjoy. I am sad they are auctioning off the letter

wonder if he already had LTD, in the special features there is a part with his mother in the behind the scenes

Oh please both these boys were watching soft porn on their grandmother's big screen before they were 10. Some James Bond wasn't going to hurt them. Might have done them some good. ;)

I was thinking about this today and realized that this wasn't all the cheap a gift. VHS tapes in teh 80s and early 90s that were for new movies used to cost an arm and leg. Thats way renting was popular in the first place,

Nope it was fairly cheap actually Doc.
I recall buying my copy of LTK on vhs from WHSmiths for (not sure how to get the pounds sign to work?) GBP 16.99
Only a few years before that the Bond films were about GBP 29.99. Though hardly an arm an a leg. Expensive though.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about really.

not in 1990, not for new movies on VHS. This was it was back then Rental stores got the Tapes weeks if not months to a year before it would go open market.
The prince got it for his birthday 1990 which would have been an more expensive not the 18.99 or $10 they were later the Rental stores were paying $90 a tape.
I think the big deal about this all because the nutty PC police are making a fuss to get publicity because a famous young man saw a movie he was "too young for"

VCR's were prohibitively expensive for most people during the 80's as were tapes. We had one though. I remember going to my local video store(no Blockbuster then!) to rent videos.

Actually Doc you are wrong. It was mid 80's when the pricing changed on tapes. My first purchased VHS's were Laurel & Hardy, Regan (funny enough), Duel and Beverly Hills Cop. All this was around 1987, when the pricing model changed for the open market. I also recall getting Rocky III and IV for Christmas that year. The prices varied from 9.99 to 15.99 GBP. By 1990, tapes were being released in the stores at the same time they were being released for rental.

Prior to that, tapes were expensive to buy. It was only rental companies that had them, and tapes would have cost around 60 to 100 GBP - so you were right, but just at the wrong time.

Maybe in the UK, here the cost for new tapes stayed high for long time until DVD came along. New movies were $18-20, and Rental tapes stayed sky high. I know cause when i was a kid I lost one. All I am saying is if this was a newer release before they non rental tapes were out maybe this driver paid little more than people expect to give the prince a thoughtful gift. Nice guy in my book. shame he has to auction off his letters to retire.
