Was it a Bond movie too many for Moore?

It probably was. I think that Roger was kept on because he was so popular and Eon were worried about who to get to replace him.

But, I love A View To A Kill. The pre-credit sequence with the iceberg submarine. The title song. John Steed (!). Tanya is gorgeous. The quiche. Walken's mad villian....

Although they had a few budget problems, the locations are wonderful.

AVTAK is the ultimate guity pleasure.
Bring back Bond!

I agree.

I watched AVTAK last weekend and I appreciate it has many faults, but it has just as many great moments too. Moore puts in a top performance even though he is starting to look too old (Still looks good for 58 though).

Sir Rog was so good in the role I'd have been happy to see him return in TLD.
Though AVTAK has some dubious moments and is a carbon copy of GF, it does indeed have many plus points. One of them is the ever wonderful Moore.
Unlike (the still and always great) Connery who looked bored in YOLT, and was only seemingly in it for the money with DAF, Sir Rog always gave Bond his all, and too this day has only good things too say about his time as OO7.
AVTAK may or may not have been one too many for the great man. But the Moore Bonds the merrier.

Excellent post Nash. :D

In a way, it's a shame Moore got 'old'. It's amazing to think that TLD was written for Moore.

I'm going to watch it again and let you know. My memory of AVTAK is not a pleasant one, not as pleasant as when I think back to some of his other movies.
Again I have to wonder about the people doing the casting and writing the storys.

Christopher Walken is brilliant casting and Grace Jones is plan ol scary

I Dont think its Sir Rogers weakest films by any means but purhaps octopussy should have been his last, he uses too many stunt doubles in this one but still a very fine Bond entry :D
