Pierce Brosnan: "I turned down Batman".

Pierce Brosnan has said that he was in talks with Tim Burton to play Batman in 1989, but passed as he couldn't take the role seriously enough. Do you think he would have been a good Batman? I'm struggling to think of him as the character personally, but that's just me.

He would not have been Bond I think in his career he would regret losing 007 more.

My first reaction was the same as Burt Reynolds wearing the 007 tuxedo. In retrospect maybe Pierce would have created an interesting movie series. Somehow I still can't picture him as Batman.

I think the collaboration he did do with Tim Burton, in Mars Attacks, was much better. He was hilarious in that.

As I said before I don't think he has the vocal range to gravel talk as batman and I'm not sure about his American accent for Wayne.

Buttttt it's a burton movie and he did good with Brosnan before so maybe Brosnan batman 1989 might of really worked.

Prior to Batman, Michael Keaton was only really known for comedic roles like Beetlejuice. There was even a fan petition to fire him (similar to Affleck recently) yet Keaton managed to pull of the character successfully in 2 films. I do agree that If he was Batman there would be no way he'd have been Bond as well, which would have been a big loss, though maybe Dalton would have kept going, or perhaps Sean Bean would have got Bond as he was the 2nd in the casting calls in 1994.

Pierce Brosnan's accent is more American than Irish now.

He lost the Irish accent when his mother moved him away ( trying to fit in a new town.) However everybody loses their accent in the states when you go home nobody understands the funny accent.

Another twist in the Bond related saga; I just read that Guy Hamilton turned down the chance to direct Batman as well.

Sure, the Pierce could have played Batman, around his 50s look. Physically, he's along the same lines of Christian Bale; and it's not that difficult for a trained actor to effect Batman's gravel-voice. They could show Bruce Wayne doing research at Drill Instructors camp. :cake:
