For GoldenEye Lovers Only

Post by ns_writings »

Not sure if said it before as I'm new here, but I manage The GoldenEye Dossier (goldeneyedossier.blogspot.com) along with some collaborators. I also wrote two books on Pierce Brosnan's debut Bond film (The World of GoldenEye and For England James: The Visual Impact of GoldenEye) in English and Spanish.

My site deals with all things GoldenEye including the video games (sadly, CoDenEye with Craig as well, can't go against history). My site was always projected as a space where we can celebrate Ian Fleming's 007 without silly critiques or things that "didn't go well" and remember the good old days. Unlike Time To Die, where Bond is effaced right from the gunbarrel sequence to the actual film where he commits suicide. GoldenEye showed us that Bond could still have a place in an ever-changing world without betraying his essence. EON and IFP are offering us a Bond-less world for the next couple of years: EON killed him, IFP is giving us a trilogy of some sort of "new generation" 00 agents in a context where Bond is missing. I want to count with you to celebrate this bombastic and spectacular return of our beloved secret agent in 1995 and next year sees the 25th anniversary of the Nintendo 64 game, for which I'm preparing a couple of special things. I know many people became Bond fans after playing that game.

The point is... my site is everyday trying to be less inclined to the Bond "community". We like two completely different characters named James Bond, I'm not comfortable with them anymore and what they like for the character goes completely against my principles - even if EON or IFP approves that as they did a month ago. So you are more than welcome there if you want to remember the good old days.

Besides of this small self-promotion, I thought of opening this thread to share all things related to GoldenEye. Not sure if there was another thread before, in which case, I apologize.

Long live the real James Bond 007!

NS, with over 4 million views on this website since its inception, you have found a home for your thoughts. Bond ended after 2002 and this plague on the franchise has metastasized into wokeness and lunacy! Goldeneye resurrected Bond films from a six year doldrum into a rousing success; however, casting a female M by EON foretold the future direction of the saga. Bond ended with Cr-egg. Those that appreciate him are basically left-wing Hollywoodies who hated the Fleming movies in the first place and wanted to recreate the character into their image of what Bond should be, with little consideration of how the original author perceived his masterpiece. As Tangina said in Poltergeist, "cross over children.....cross over.....into the light....all welcome", as you are here!

Thanks a lot Bjmdds! I made this post because I'm not getting along with today's fandom at all. The scale sways between those I tolerate to the ones I can't stand and the ones I'm basically at war with. Then there are the few I really adore, but I can count them with the fingers of my hands, really. When I started the site, back in 2011, I also covered general James Bond news, but the way this is going, I won't do anymore. I'm squarely into all things GoldenEye now and my aim is to share great things with all these people who celebrated the Brosnan era as I did as a kid. As they say, "they can't cancel you if you don't let them".

Yes, I talked a lot with Drakester about Judi Dench's M. I didn't mind because back then I didn't know M was male, just when I saw the Moore films I knew. We both agreed that Judi's M lost her way in the Cregg era. With Brosnan, the trust between the two grew and she started seeing things in Bond's way, but she always had an authority over him. With Cregg, it looks as if Bond is her boss.

I go back before you with this franchise NS. They had Sean Connery dolls that fired a cap gun and he was THE Bond for many. The rest are replacements. I always like Brosnan's portrayal as my second choice, with Moore third. In 1989 I saw LTK in the theaters and it was OK but nothing great to me. I remember the media saying that this film was only rated a B+ at the time and it tanked at the box office. Dalton went on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and said he would NEVER do a Bond film where a jet flew out of a horse's ass, as he put it, referring to OP. Lazenby was OK, but he screwed himself by not staying on to do 5 more pictures if they let him.
