Rifftrax for Casino Royale now available
If anyone here was a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, you may be interested in Rifftrax, a site offering downloadable, MST3K-style DVD commentaries by Mike Nelson and other series alumni - including one for Casino Royale. It'll be fun to hear Mike and Kevin Murphy extract the urine out of CR, though the pro-Craigers here might not think so!

Yes and I enjoyed the moment when one of them commented on him not being as graceful as the other fellow (Brosnan I presume) and the other bloke said he was about as graceful as Daffy Duck! The ludicrous and implausible nature of the chase scene was magnified by watching it in isolation. And yet CR was hailed as a very serious entry in a silly series!
Bring back Bond!
I think the "other fellow" referred to the guy he was chasing ("the fourth Mario Brother").carl stromberg wrote:Yes and I enjoyed the moment when one of them commented on him not being as graceful as the other fellow (Brosnan I presume)

Think we can't take a joke? I'm fine with this kind of stuff, imagine the ripping on the other films. My friend and I once did this kind of thing on Fellowship of the Ring (which we think is great btw), then somehow we lost the recordings.James wrote:I have the Mystery Science Theater 3000 film on tape somewhere. Nice to see Casino Royale, a film that some fans love to take so seriously, getting a bit of a ribbing.
Finally listened to this commentary last night. Funny stuff. I won't spoil it by repeating all the best gags but I will say that the pro-Craigers may not find it funny, as the riffers seem to be old-skool Bond fans and many of the jokes (such as the one in my sig line) are based around the idea that CR is a little bit...how can I put this politely..."relaxed" when compared to traditional Bond films.

The only Rifftrax I've listened to so far is Star Trek V and my goodness it as incredible. I'm pretty anxious to see Matrix, Phantom Menace, ID4 and 300. I might check out CR but I wanna watch the really bad ones that deserve every riff from these guys.
I do find it odd they're even riffing good movies besides CR. Lord of the Rings? Well I suppose that's a good movie that can be riffed for fun, but still.

I think the reasons for that are partly creative and partly commercial. Creative because it is more challenging to make fun of a good movie than a bad one. Yes, I used to laugh when they would riff on cheesy old B-movies in Mystery Science Theater 3000, but really, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Commercial because selling downloadable DVD commentaries is different to having your own TV show. With MST3K, the movie and the commentary came as a complete package. With Rifftrax, it makes sense for them to create commentaries for movies that people already own. They have Rifftrax available for some bad movies, like the Mariah Carey turkey Glitter, but I wonder how many people are going to rent ot buy Glitter just so they can hear the commentary.stockslivevan wrote:I do find it odd they're even riffing good movies besides CR.
