Kristatos's Wessex Bond news thread

Postby Kristatos » Wed Mar 20, 2013 9:23 pm

As some of you know, my job as secretary of Wessex Society requires me to monitor local news from all over Wessex (Berkshire, Bristol, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Somerset and Wiltshire). Sometimes, this leads me to a Bond-related news story, which I normally post here. Instead of giving a Wessex bias to the general news thread, I thought I'd create a dedicated thread for these stories.

I start with news of a Bond-themed flower show. I am not making this up.

In regards to the Bond-themed flower show:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a rare Orchidae Nigra, or Black Orchid, discovered by Hugo Drax in the Amazon rain forest. The orchid's pollen was responsible for the eradication of the civilization who built it. Highly toxic, long term exposure to the orchid's pollen causes sterility. Drax's scientists weaponized the pollen, creating a deadly nerve gas capable of causing instant death to humans rather than sterility. However, it does not affect plants or animals.

He was 68, contributed to every Bond film starting with Dr No through Skyfall, he must have started with Bond from the very start of his career. Amazing personal story, RIP.

Watkins was described as "Mr Lead" by jazz great Dizzy Gillespie; as well as the Bond films he played with the Beatles, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, the London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra during his lengthy career.

The official 007 Facebook page has only just now got around to posting the news in my previous post from over a week ago, in between endless promotional stills from Skyfall. It's clear where you need to come if you want the latest Bond news!

I don't count places like MI6 because they get their news fed to them.

It's a shame we can't get mentioned on Google News. CommanderBond and that new crappy MI6 site always are.

MI6 is rubbish now with that weird message board. Their old forum looked much better.

I don't know what happened with MI6 and their forum suddenly vanishing. You'd think they would have used the same software for the new one.

Seriously..the faux MI6 forums are messy and hard to read. Worse than Commander Bond with the red and black(which also made things hard to read.)

Probably not, but they have direct access to EON, while we don't, so they can recycle their press releases (which is what passes for journalism these days). We just post links to stories that have already been reported elsewhere. I was only joking when I said that about reporting the news first. I was comparing this site to the official 007 Facebook page, which is pretty rubbish. 90% of their posts are just promotional stills, usually from Skyfall. I could understand that in the lead-up to the film's cinema and DVD/Blu-Ray releases, but not now. I messaged them with the link to my Unsung Bond Spotify playlist in the hope that they would share it so that other people could enjoy it, but there was no reply, though they did post the news about the vinyl re-releases of three Bond soundtracks a few days later. I wonder if they would have bothered to report that if it hadn't been for my message.

No. Really? _.///

LOL so, I've been chatting with one of the medical advisors for House..she said that it was a struggle to get stuff correctly, but they had to fudge things, otherwise it would make for boring TV.

I love the stories that come out every so often that Bond is not real :!:

Medical dramas ave to somewhat accurate spy dramas have to be exciting the real world spying is boring pouring over data and Cold War spying is traps in traps which I find boring that's why I like bond dalton Lazenby Connery Moore . Brosnan made bond cool
