TARANTINO CLAIMS CASINO ROYALE SUCCESS
http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/ar ... no%20royal...

Legendary director Quentin Tarantino has claimed that producers stole his idea for the remake of Bond film Casino Royale.

Starring actor Daniel Craig, the latest 007 film proved a huge hit with fans and won acclaim for Craig, who many people first doubted had what it takes to play the suave secret agent.

Tarantino said he wanted to make a more gritty and less glamorous Bond film with previous Bond actor Pierce Brosnan but was told that it was unfilmable, the Mirror newspaper reports.

But just months later production began on Casino Royale, with the emphasis on a tougher Bond and his role as a killer.

"I resent that none of them gave me a shout-out that I'm the one got them making Casino Royale," he said.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is also said to have put forward Tarntino's name to 007 bosses.

Tarantino claims: "They told him, 'We're afraid Quentin's going to make it too good and f*** the rest of the series'."

He has previously made no secret of his desire to be involved in a Bond film. "I've always wanted to do it," he admitted in 2004.

Tarantino rose to film after directing the cult films Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill and has gone on to have a prolific career in Hollywood including numerous acting, writing and producing roles.

QT would have made an excellent Bond film. I hope he is considered in the future as he is superb with it comes to defining characters.

As I recall, Tarantino wanted to make CR an R-rated film set in the 50's and starring Pierce Brosnan. EON's CR was a PG-13 film set in 2006 and starring Daniel Craig. So what exactly was stolen? The idea of filming a novel that EON had recently obtained the rights to anyway? The idea of making a "darker, grittier Bond" - like no-one's ever come up with that one before? Tarantino's a great director, but he can't half be a richard-head sometimes.

A modern day version of Bond set in the 50/60's would have been a great idea as the Reboot. Sort of Batman Begins. (Just a thought).

i like how Brosnan is good enough for Tarantino, yet somehow isn't good enough for people who slag off his Bond films as if it was the actor's fault.
I wish we could still see a Tarantino Bond film, and if not with Pierce, perhaps with someone else. a Bond film along the lines of Kill Bill could be a great deal of fun.

I think a Tarantino Bond film might just have lived up to anything produced by the legendary Martin Campbell.

Tarantino's claims, and indeed this story, might be complete cobblers. The idea of him directing a Bond film is interesting though, not that it will ever happen.

To be a good Bond director, you have to take your ego out of the equation. I'm afraid Tarantino, who happens to be one of my favorites, is not qualified. He's better at making films his way completely and if he were to direct a James Bond film, it would probably be more like Never Say Never Again, only better.

If Eon are going to radically change their production techniques and give control over a Bond movie to famous directors, then there are other directors I would choose over Tarantino.

I think Tarantino was looking at an eccentric. blood-soaked. R-rated take on Bond. I'd enjoy it, but I'd still like Eon to make another of those traditional Bonds.
