"Beautiful, fortune-telling Solitaire is the prisoner (and tool) of Mr Big - master of fear, artist in crime and Voodoo Baron of Death. James Bond has no time for superstition - he knows that Big is also a top SMERSH operative and a real threat. More than that, after tracking him through the jazz joints of Harlem, to the Everglades and on to the Caribbean, 007 has realised that he is one of the most dangerous men that he has ever faced. And no one, not even the enigmatic Solitaire, can be sure how their battle of wills is going to end."

does it matter in which order you read Fleming's bond books?
I've Dr no a few times and CR once or twice but never got in the other books because I wanted to get the next one in order.

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

If you are reading them for the first time it's probably an idea to read them on order. But it's not essential as they are standalone - there is normally a small recap at the start of the book.

Live And Let Die is a corker!
Bring back Bond!

I noticed that Louis Armstrong was mentioned. Just a funny little connection I noticed.

One of the better Bond books, it was quite long too. A real shame the movie diverged so much. The scene where Bond and Solitaire are dragged behind the boat was a welcome popup in the movie for For Your Eyes Only and think the same about the plot similarities in Licence to Kill with the smuggling runs in Florida (gold swapped to drugs) and Felix being fed to the shark with that chilling note: "He disagreed with something that ate him".
"Dalton makes an effective Bond - lacking Sean Connery's grace and humor, and Roger Moore's suave self-mockery, but with a lean tension and a toughness that is possibly more contemporary" - Roger Ebert
