“Everything I write has a precedent in truth” - source?

Post by nanolark »

Hello everyone,
Could you please help and tell me what is the source of this particular quote from Fleming: “Everything I write has a precedent in truth”?
I've been searching the Internet but somehow I cannot find it. I believe it was Macintyre's "For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond" where I've read it for the first time. To my mind it could also have been said during Fleming's interview for BBC.
Any guesses?

I'm not sure. It's so ubiquitous I'm not certain where he originally said it.
Most of my searches turn up the Fleming mini series

Rodney Legg, Dorset historian and author said: "Fleming once said that "everything I write has a precedent in truth", and I think it is true of the Bond motto.

It's often quoted however I have not found the original source. Maybe one of his biographies?

I will keep looking.

Fleming used to write articles in newspapers and was interviewed frequently, It may have been said there. If so, it might be tricky to hunt down the original source if it is a newspaper from 50 years ago. I hope you do find out, and be sure to let us know if you do.
