I recently succumbed and took out a subscription to Scribd.com. I had always resisted, because it's not exactly the easiest website to use (the mobile app is even worse). For one thing, it has the world's worst search engine. The default (and only) setting seems to be "find any word", meaning that putting in more search terms actually gets you more irrelevant returns. And even if you type in the exact title of a book, the book can sometimes be about the tenth result returned. I usually have to do a site search in Google to find what I want, rather than using the site's own search box!

But there's no denying that the selection of books on there is impressive. I have found loads of books I want to read, including some that have never been published in Britain, all 100% legal and above board.
