I enjoyed Sir Roger's Book and am Reading SAHARA by Clive Cussler, so far about half way through and it's far better than the Movie they must of left at least 60% of the story Out.

Bring back Bond!
Re: Last book you read
Just starting Anne Rice's book about religion, Called Out Of Darkness. She was raised Catholic but has been an atheist at various points in her life.
Before that I was reading several of Carl Hiaasen's books which, if you haven't read them are hysterical. They all take place in Florida and feature a cast of very interesting characters, some of them recurring.

Almost through the Pendergast series by Lincoln and Child. No Michael Creightons', they'll do in a pinch.
Does the cover of their next book look familiar to anyone?

I'm guessing the cover is some sort of nod to Bond?
Still reading my Carl Hiaasen book. A friend was supposed to lend me I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell but hasn't yet.

Re: Last book you read
I think it is. I have this story pre-order althou I have not finished Fever Dream it is suppsoed to be about Special Agent Penergast hunting down his wife's murders, a curious similarity together with the cover resembling the PAN edition of OHMSS I don't see a coincidence.katied wrote:I'm guessing the cover is some sort of nod to Bond?

No one has read any books.
I've just read a general history of WWII by Andrew Roberts. I know most of the events of WWII but he discussed quite a few what ifs regarding Hitler's strategies.

The Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien. Not recommended for those whose only knowledge of Tolkien comes via Peter Jackson. It's like reading a Norse saga, no hobbits here.

Currently reading Francis Gummere's translation of Beowulf, which preserves the alliterative metre of the original. For example:
Given my Anglo-Saxon obsession, I'd love to be able to write like that, but it looks hard. Then again, nothing worth pursuing ever comes easily,’TWAS now, men say, in his sovran’s need that the earl made known his noble strain, craft and keenness and courage enduring. Heedless of harm, though his hand was burned, hardy-hearted, he helped his kinsman. A little lower the loathsome beast he smote with sword; his steel drove in bright and burnished; that blaze began to lose and lessen. At last the king wielded his wits again, war-knife drew, a biting blade by his breastplate hanging, and the Weders’-helm smote that worm asunder, felled the foe, flung forth its life.
