The Moneypenny Diaries

Post by commander0077again »

"I didn't know there was a pool down there ..." perplexed hood in DAF after tossing Plenty of Toole through a window. I felt the same when I discovered that Moneypenny had written a diary, discovered by her niece. It has a leisurely pace, after all it's a diary (edited by a doctorate in history). The 'editor' chooses to focus on the year 1962 ... where Moneypenny and Bond are involved in the Cuban Missile Crises ... which would be a good setting for a Bond novel* ... It also mentions the events leading to Bond being missioned to Japan. 007 comes across as fairly close to the original; it's nice to see Moneypenny remark that he and Bill Tanner have sense of humours (btw, it's always a nice touch when British spelling are use, as well as punctuation marks).
In real life, Lt. Roy Boehm, founder of the U.S. UDT/SEALs, just at their beginning, who was tasked to recon Cuba. He babysat what he thought was a nerd/photo specialist. But he was impressed with the nerd's bravery: Boehm and another associate who had brought all three in by sea, hid in a shipyard shed, while the nerd went out and took the photos.
The diary begins with the sudden marriage of Bond to the shock of everyone at HQ, and then the greater shock of Tracy's death a short while later.
You move very well for a dead man, Mister Bond

Kill him!

I have a copy of the first one, and though I did start to read it, I never finished it. I might have to give it another go.

I might have this book I used to buy any 007 related book to cross my path yet never bothered to read it. You make if sound so interesting I might give it a crack.
