James Bond first editions to go under the hammer

Just in case Father Chirstmas was wondering what was on my Christmas list ;)
Bidders are expected to be shaken but not stirred as James Bond first editions go under the hammer.

Highly sought-after editions of Ian Fleming’s spy books are expected to fetch up to £12,000.

The book that introduced 007 to the world, Casino Royale, is anticipated to be the highlight of the auction.

Auctioneer Dominic Winter said: “The rare book market has many changing tastes and fashions, although the strikingly colourful James Bond first editions have always been one of the surest certainties over the last thirty years.

“Prices and demand have gone up, with premium prices being paid for mint condition rarities. The 007 film industry has helped that impetus by drawing in thousands of new fans keen to buy into the James Bond fantasy.

“First editions, film posters, autographs, we’ve got everything but his gun.”

Also being sold is a first edition of Ian Fleming’s Live and Let Die – expected to reach up to £5,000. Others include Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever and the Spy Who Loved Me.

As well as the first edition books, the avid Bond collector can also pick up James Bond posters and a copy of Patrick Leigh Fermor’s first book The Traveller’s Tree (1950), signed by Ian Fleming.

The auction will take place at Dominic Winter auctioneers in Gloucestershire, tomorrow.

And the award for lamest use of a Bond-related cliche goes to....
"The whole idea of the Bond films--and I don't know if they haven't lost a bit of that now--was that they were paperback films, as it were." - Peter Hunt
