George Clooney

Post by Moore »

A few days ago my friend has told me that George Clooney would be a great Bond. 'He has style, apperance and sesne of humour, so why not?', he said. Well, I have to say that it could be interesting. And how do you think?

Favorite Bond Movie: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible, Kingsman: The Secret Service and The November Man or any upcoming actioners starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good since it will help him expand his reputation as an actor especially in the action realm)

He'll be perfect as the next unofficial Bond.

I wouldn't choose GC for the facts he's too famous and perhaps the wrong side of the hill.

I do however understand why he has been nominated for Bond and see a lot of good traits in him.

Well, I don't think he would be the worst choice... maybe the biggest minus is that he's not British. But he could probably do a neutral 'mid-Atlantic' accent like PB. He scores high in the good looks dept -- which would not be debatable "someone's ugly may be another's handsome"... action, looking good in a tux, etc, humor ... high points.

Clooney was quite good in The Peacemaker which was sort of Bondish but he's too famous and a bit old to be 007. Has the looks though.

Well, if you say so. But I don't think there is someone who would dare to make an unofficial Bond movie, and even if, it would be the best to put Brosnan as a Bond, and maybe Moore or Connery as M... But in official series Clooney is rather quite good choice I think

Never thought of George Clooney as Bond because he is an American. But he has the looks and the class.

I don't think that it's good idea. Clooney is too well known and, despite having the right look and class, too old.

It depends on point of view actually... In Flaming novels Bond is over 40 so he fit the role even in his age I think

You're right - he fits at the moment. But for how long? If you hired an actor to play Bond, you would like him to star in a couple of films. Wouldn't you?
And for me the only man who is (was) able to successfully play Bond in his late 50s was Roger Moore.
Frequent changes of actors should be avoided. The franchise needs stability, so Clooney, even hypothetically isn't the best choice.

But how could you know that he wouldn't look as good as Moore in his old age? Today he looks very good when being not so young, so why he is supposed to start look like Daniel Craig? :P

True Clooney has the traits associated normally with Bond. But not being English is a deal killer for me.

Brings up an interesting question: around the world Bond's voice is dubbed in, does being English even matter for the rest of the world?

It does to me because of hearing his accent growing up.

I don't mind Clooney as an actor. His more recent stuff is better than the old crap he made.
But I'd have to place him in this topic as far as a possible James Bond goes.
