The difference is that I don't think Dalton particularly wanted to be a movie star, I always got the impression that he'd be just as happy playing Hamlet for the RSC or whatever. Whereas Craig seems to like the big paydays that come from movie stardom, but not the actual work (which includes promotional tours just as much as acting).

I think Craig is afraid of being “dalton”, in the US dalton is still thought of as a crap bond and a mistake. In movie circles he’s not thought of this way but the public here don’t view lazenby and dalton well.
For Craig being a dalton would mean he goes from a somebody everybody wants to know about to a honest actor doing the work on tv, movie and stage, that not the life for him

I think kris is right that dalton wasn’t into being a movie star in the old sense of the classic Hollywood use of the word. But he was happy to be nice to the fans and give us what we expected personally from the actor playing bond. I don’t think he felt hurt/limited by bond like Craig does, dalton was ready to find good jobs and continue to earn his reputation, as Connery and brosnan did. IMHO Moore enjoyed the role and was happy to play into the image of it is what people wanted, he didn’t try to redefine himself like Connery.

I wouldnt be surprised if Craig’s final big payday is the digital rights to his image. I imagine eon has tried for the last 20 years to secure Connery’s before he dies but we alll know babs would love to own Craig’s image the most.

Completely agreed. I think Dalton was always a classically trained stage actor in heart who loved acting for the sake of it more than any opportunity to be a true movie star with all the perks that status brings.
Although that didn't stop him from charming Sophie Marceau years before she became a Bond girl. So I heard.

Tom Hiddleston is still the favourite at the bookmakers.

Well, all he lacks is classic looks. He has all the other qualities. :britflag:
When push comes to shove it'd still probably choose someone like Turner because of the classic Bond looks but I wouldn't mind Hiddleston in the slightest.

Richard Madden is now 6/4 with most bookmakers due to the success of his tv show The Bodyguard. I don't see much of Bond in what I've seen of him. He's only 5'9 too - even shorter than Craig.

The only thing I've seen him in was an episode of Electric Dreams, which I don't remember well enough to comment one way or the other on his suitability as Bond.

Madden is just... not Bond like at all. He's likeable... sympatique and all that but no Bond.

I'm not familiar with him so I have nothing to go on other than this picture and to be honest it's hard to gauge him through that hipster beard.

I see Henry Goulding's odds are 20-1 as well. Great accent and he's handsome but... no.

I read that Richard Madden is favourite. He is now in the Elton John biopic.

Nothing against the fella, but I wouldn't want Madden as Bond at all. It was embarrassing to watch him play a wimpy character opposite Idris Elba in Bastille Day. Can't imagine a guy living off "pinky promises" donning the tuxedo.

But, then again, we have a neo-progressive Bond now, already. So, I wouldn't be surprised with anything, anymore.

How about Justin Trudeau as the first black Bond?

I just hope that next April really is the end for Craig and we can FINALLY begin the search for the next Bond. I could live with Turner or Cavill getting the part but you genuinely never know with Barbara Broccoli. At this point I wouldn't like to bet on who the next actor will actually turn out to be.

According to the press today, Outlander star Sam Heughan is now 5-2 with bookmakers despite having once been listed way out at 75-1. This makes him the current bookies favourite alongside Hiddleston. I've never watched Outlander and Heughan doesn't look very Bondish in the pictures I've seen.

Your seemingly weekly reminder that bookies, by their own admission, know nothing about calculating odds for anything other than sporting events, and all this is just free PR for EON.

I watched Heughan in that spy comedy with Mila Kunis and I've got to say... he had it as far as I recall.
Even though between him and Hiddleston I would prefer Hiddleston because with that kind of voice you can be whoever you want to be.
