Having just read MR the second time, I think not.

Clive Owen is too old now,but he's got that old school suave,perfect for Bond look.

A few come to mind. The most obvious ones are:

- Pierce Brosnan (particularly in his younger years) - Far too slight, pretty, conceited and smarmy in his manner and appearance. Looks too Mediterranean, not Germanic enough facial-features-wise, and his uninhibited Irish American delivery is inappropriate.
- Henry Cavill - His little charm or screen presence, and couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Too pretty in appearance
- Sam Worthington - Too boorish and dull.
- Christian Bale - Far too monotone, gloomy and unengaging as an actor.
- Clive Owen - Same as above, though perhaps even more so.

Since when has being "Germanic enough" been a prime qualification for being Bond? Don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question. I know the answer is 2006.

Since that highly quoted sketch was first published, along with when Fleming hinted to Bond having a Scottish-Swiss herritage, likened him to Hoagy Carmichael, and alluded to him being born in Germany.

Far from conclusive, sure. But Craig is closer to the mark, at least physically.

Looks like a German to me
