Craig suggests Jon Hamm for Bond

Post by CaptainLewis »

Daniel Craig has suggested Mad Men star Jon Hamm as a potential James Bond.

Speaking to Australia's Herald Sun, Craig said that American actor Hamm should play the MI6 agent if producers decide to adapt Sebastian Faulks's recent '60s-set Bond novel Devil May Care for the big screen.

"Have you seen that terrific series Mad Men? It's great and I look at that guy [Hamm] and he's got such a great look," Craig said. "If you're doing the film of [Devil May Care] that look would be perfect. If you were doing a one-off film I would say that's the way you would go."

However, Craig reasserted that there are no plans to return the spy character to a Cold War setting.

"That's not where we are," he explained. "The intention was always to make more than one of these so we have to move it forward because in two years' time, when hopefully we'll do another one, we'll still be pushing it forward."

Wait a second
DMC takes place after TMWTGG right?
DMC was written in the style Ian Fleming used right?

Then isn't this tantamount to admitting he isn't right for Ian Fleming's James Bond?

I have not seen Mad Men. Is it any good?

At least he looks the role. An American in the role? I'd rather pass on that unless he is a closet limey. Bond is demanding role and the actor has to be skilled enough to keep in character and accent when hanging from the back of plane. It's not easy.

Speak in of keeping in character, I don't think Craig has that problem since his Bond has none. A Peter Weller inspired RoboBond

I don't mind, provided he can do a convincing accent, but do we know whether he can or not? Has he ever done a British accent in a role?

I don't think he has. But that doesn't mean he can't, he may have the voice training.

Or then again, he may not. We've no actual way of knowing whether he'd be another Johnny Depp or another Dick Van Dyke.

He may have the look required, and he could possibly do the accent. But he can't play Bond if he's not English.
It's why Lazenby isn't widely (though not by me) accepted as Bond, and why Brosnan gets bashed so much.
Lazenby could've grown into the role, and did a sterling job for a debut. Not only taking over from Connery, but also as a debut movie.
Brosnan on the other hand played the role in a more Americanised way. Why some fans don't like him I think. He took away Bonds Englishness.
Why Craig won over nearly everyone all over the world but especially in the uk with Casino Royale. Here we had an Englishman playing Bond. It's why Cubby and Harry never hired an American actor, and why hopefully Barbara and Michael don't either.

Sorry nobody knows Lazenby isn't English. Not out side of fan sites.
Pierce wasn't British enough, come on now we've gone back over that in the several threads here and discussed how the producers changed the Bond movies image to include American and other influences starting way back. Hell Craig is probably the most americanized of them all. He isn't evne particularly sticking as English, more would probably identify Jason Statham as english based on his voice adn manners over the monotone Craig. Nothing about Craig is particularly English, JOhn Oliver on teh daily show acts more English.

The world has changed since 1962 when a scotsman was given teh role, followed by Welsh, Australian and irish men (what the hell as moore?).

Some of the biggest stars on American tv are not American the audience doesn't know or care. I'd doubt any would care is an american got the (bond) role and all of his lines were dubbed in.

Ummm where is that then? Example?

I'm guessing you're not an Englishman Doc

Moore is English. And yes the world has changed. The people like a more realistic Bond, but with plenty of fantasy thrown in aswell.

Some of the biggest stars on American tv are not American the audience doesn't know or care. I'd doubt any would care is an american got the (bond) role and all of his lines were dubbed in.
What does that say about Americans and American tv?
As for casting an American actor and dubbing him. I don't think so.
 :o :? :P

Sadly, I can predict the reaction to a American being cast as Bond . That would go over REALLY well. If he can do the accent and not screw it up, give him a chance,I say.

Babs and Mike wouldn't do that so I've no concerns.
They're not looking for a new Bond, and Hamm isn't going to get the role even if and when they do.

Babs and Mike have no desire to hire someone ASAP for Bond #7(as much as BJMDDS wishes they would!) Unfortunately I doubt we'd get someone as handsome as Hamm, knowing Babs' taste in men :?

Her taste in men doesn't give much hope for who she'll choose for Bond # 7. It'll be all her decision.Unfortunately. :?
