I read on the Alternative007 forum that Robert Wagner was approached to play Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

So was Adam West by all accounts. I'm perfectly happy that Lazenby did it myself.

Luckily Wagner thought Bond should not be played by an American (and rightly so) and declined the offer.
Not sure what Broccoli and Saltzman were thinking. Robert Wagner wouldn't be the worst choice (if an American were chosen), but the likes of Adam West and Burt Reynolds.
Come on.
And you guys think Craig is a bad choice. At least he can act, and is British.

Actually, Wagner's a pretty good light comic actor (see the Austin Powers films or the original Pink Panther), but I'm not sure he'd be my first choice for Bond, even if he were British. I think he'd have been another lightweight Bond in the Moore mould. It's hard to imagine him with the ruthless streak that Connery, Dalton or even Brosnan showed when necessary.

You could've also included that Robert Wagner is also the brother in law of Lana Wood, who played Plenty O'Toole. Also from DAF.
What a coincidence.
