Offbeat Bond casting.
Daniel Craig broke the mould for the casting of Bond. Can you think of any offbeat choices for Bond that would work?

It's hard to say. I must admit as much as I like Craig I didn't expect him to be accepted in the role quite as well as he has been.
Although I have always thought the guy deserves a chance, and kudos to him for what his done with the role.
I don't think the world is ready for a coloured Bond, and imo Bond shouldn't have too go down that path.
The only actors I can think of that might have made interesting Bonds are people like James Mason or Cary Grant.

Come on now this is just being argumentative, for arguments sake.stockslivevan wrote:I know. You both know as well as anybody that the friends of Craig in the Bond forums have claimed Daniel's acting chops were the deciding factor in his Bond appointment, along with the claim Daniel's atypical look would not be a factor because of his acting ability.
A direct quote is not necessary, although if you could prove that no Bond fan/Friend of Craig ever said it might be a different matter and reasonable to request a source. However in this case there are abundant examples.

Oddball casting first name that swaggers to mind is Johnny Depp. A incredibly wide acting rang, althou Bond was not a role I would ever considered him for.

So I guess the 'he looks wrong, is too ugly, is too short' and so on from the anti-Craigs could be seen in the same way then. Again there are abundant examples.Blowfeld wrote:Come on now this is just being argumentative, for arguments sake.stockslivevan wrote:I know. Yes, "but he's such a good actor" is the standard Craigian rebuttal to any criticism of his looks, as if no good actor was ever miscast in a role.Blowfeld wrote:You both know as well as anybody that the friends of Craig in the Bond forums have claimed Daniel's acting chops were the deciding factor in his Bond appointment, along with the claim Daniel's atypical look would not be a factor because of his acting ability.

No, rather a traditional Bond.carl stromberg wrote:Daniel Craig broke the mould for the casting of Bond. Can you think of any offbeat choices for Bond that would work?
With the mold gone Whoopi Goldberg could be Bond and the whole shebang goes Sherlock Holmes –with every theater group proudly making their own take one a clearly defined character.

It helps if the guy can act.Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:Did the part of James Bond in Casino Royale (2006) really require a good actor?
How about Cillian Murphy as a young Bond?
Which is why Daniel Craig has been such a hit after the mediocre Brosnan.
But Cillian Murphy is not Bond material imo. Too scrawny, not heroic leading man stuff and if people here complain about Craigs looks, then forgive but Murphy is no better.

Yep, Murphy would be a good as a Bond villian.stockslivevan wrote:Nah, maybe as a Bond villian. He does have that creep factor proven in Batman Begins and Red Eye.Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:Did the part of James Bond in Casino Royale (2006) really require a good actor?

I think Brando with his Fletcher Christian accent would have been interesting. His Burn Sir William Walker accent was somewhat different.

Cillian Murphy would be a GREAT Bond villain-he's played both good guys(28 Days Later)and bad guys(Batman Begins).Plus, he's easy on the eyes. And I'm partial to Irish men
