I remember clearly, that it was MICHAEL MADSEN, who mentioned publicly, that they had hired an Australian guy, to replace Pierce,
apart from being in DAD with Pierce, Madsen is a close friend of Pierce's, and a neighbour of his in Malibu.

The actor that Michael Madsen was refering to was infact the late Heath Ledger.
Who apparently was on a short list of possible Brosnan replacements.
Not sure if he could've done Bond, or whether he would want to. Though judging by his ability as an actor, I wonder if he might not make a great OO7.
To bad we'll never know. Huge loss to the movie industry.

Agreed, he was 29 at the time (not too young or old).
