'Star Wars' changes on new Blu-ray release freak out fans
Relaxnews – 10 hrs ago

LucasFilm confirmed the rumors on the internet about the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga, with alterations to the films that have outraged fans.

Changes George Lucas has made to the films include added dialogue spoken by Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, specifically his yelling "Noooo!!"

Also included are an altered sound that Ben Kenobi makes in Star Wars (aka A New Hope), according to SlashFilm.com, as well as a digital change to Yoda and the Ewoks, who now blink, thanks to computer-generated digital technology.

Lucas has previously released special editions, adding new scenes and special effects, including the infamous "Hans shoots first" change in the 1997 Star Wars: Special Edition.

Criticisms about the "tinkering' with the films state that its director has "destroyed the dramatic impact of the most iconic scenes in American film history." Comments online to boycott the Blu-ray package claim that the purchase "sends a message it is okay to mess with the originals."

The 9-disc release includes all six of the films: Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, and Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (Episodes IV - VI).

Bonus features include audio commentary from George Lucas, archival interviews with cast and crew, deleted, extended and alternate scenes, footage of costume turnarounds and concept art.

Star Wars documentaries in the package include A Conversation with the Masters: The Empire Strikes Back 30 Years Later (2010), Star Wars Spoofs (2011) and The Making of Star Wars (1977).

The September 16 release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray retails for US$139.99 and $89.99 on Amazon.

Screw Lucas I will give EON the fact they have preserved the original films as intended (far as I know), they day when she digitally edits the movies to be in line with CR and QOS and CGI Craig in all the movies from Dr No to Qos it is more than over :007:
[Movies] Star Wars Fans Calling for Boycott of Blu-Ray Releases
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 09.02.2011

See all the criticized changes...

George Lucas has pushed some Star Wars fans too far. Following on news that Lucas had made further tweaks to his films for the upcoming Blu-Ray release, a collection of fans are calling for a boycott of the Blu-Ray releases.

The changes that Lucas is making for the franchise's first HD video release include Darth Vader giving a "Noooo!" when he turns on Emporer Palpatine at the end of Return of the Jedi, similar to the much-derided howl he gives at the end of Revenge of the Sith. He has also added digital effects to make the Ewoks blink in Jedi, Yoda is now CGI in The Phantom Menace and in A New Hope (aka the original film), Obi-Wan Kenobi's Krayt Dragon howl is changed. One online source referred to the new noise as sounding "sounds like a pedophile getting his dick caught in a screen door" while another called it like "Richard Simmons stepping on a nail." As a result, online campaigns have popped up to boycott, complaining that Lucas has never offered the original films for sale, and are using Lucas' own words during testimony to Congress in 1988 against him:

"People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society.

In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be "replaced" by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.

Attention should be paid to this question of our soul, and not simply to accounting procedures. Attention should be paid to the interest of those who are yet unborn, who should be able to see this generation as it saw itself, and the past generation as it saw itself.

Babs is just as bad as Lucas but in a different way.

Back on subject of Star Wars, I ordered the 1997 special edition of the Original Trilogy. I hope it comes to my house in a pristine condition without any defects (big or small).

In fact, Babs is sometimes worse than Lucas as she uses the "Imperius" Curse and brainwash the public.

I can't understand what Lucas is thinking, the rocks hiding r2 in ANH look bad on top of looking cgied in every other shot they are not there when looking from behind r2 and when he rolls away it makes no sense how he got behind there in the first place.

Boiling Point: Why Does George Lucas Hate ‘Star Wars,’ Fans, and History?
Boiling Point By Robert Fure on September 5, 2011 | Be the First To Comment
13Share

Boiling PointIf you’ve been fortunate enough to avoid this news until now, I’m sorry, it’s about to get shitty. George Lucas, in a move that surprises no one but angers anyone who’s ever seen Star Wars, has excessively tinkered with the movies in the saga, taking the beloved and dropping a pile of turds on it.

It’s true Lucas has been wallowing in the sewage pool after tweaking the original movies in shitty ways (Greedo shoots first, Jabba looks like ass, etc) and making three bad movies to utterly destroy the awesome coolness that was Darth Vader and irreparably rupture the continuity of the franchise.

Not content to stop there though, ol’ Georgie-poo has decided to add another notch to his bulbous neck by ignoring (mostly) fan outcry and amplifying the s**t we already hate. Let’s break it down.

More CGI aka Death of the Yoda Puppet & The Blinking Ewoks

If there were one thing the franchise needed, it was more CGI, amirite? After all, it’s not like Star Wars is well known and widely adored for the awesome practical effects and puppets, right? In one change, Lucas has decided that the admittedly shitty Yoda puppet in The Phantom Menace has been replaced by the CGI Yoda from the latter films.

Further, in a move that can only be considered delusional and completely, utterly retarded, the Ewoks will now blink. Because that’s the least believable part about teddy bears killing highly trained Stormtroopers, the fact that their lifeless button eyes didn’t look enough like giant, wet, anime eyes. Well, never fear, because now they do and it sucks.

Han & Greedo Get the Same Idea at the Same Time

While anyone who is right knows that Han Solo shot first and that made him cool, George Lucas thought that instead of cool, Han should be respectable and shoot second. I mean, it’s not like his character was awesome because he was a lovable rogue, not afraid to blast a dirty bounty hunter. A dirty bounty hunter, but not a very good one. I mean, the ‘new’ Greedo takes a shot from across the table, literally three feet away, from his blaster that he’s had trained on Solo for 90 seconds. And he misses. Worst. Bounty Hunter. Ever.

This all almost changes on the Blu-ray, as in the new cut, Greedo and Han shoot pretty much at the same time. Greedo shoots just a little bit faster, and still misses horribly, while Solo fires his follow up shot so quickly that he clearly was just going to blast Greedo anyways. So now Solo is just as much of a cold blooded murderer that Lucas wanted to avoid, it’s just that he’s a good bit slower than he used to be.

Fans Aren’t the Only Ones Crying

Once upon a time, Old Ben Kenobi scared off some sand people by making some loud noises. After all, the sound people scare easily, but soon return and in greater numbers. This go ’round, for some reason that can only be explained by George Lucas literally hating everything, Obi-Wan apparently brings an MP3 player with him and plays some crisp digital recording of a “krayt dragon.” Now, he doesn’t really have an MP3 player, but he definitely makes a noise that no human could ever make. Why is this change even necessary? We don’t know what the f**k a krayt dragon is or what it sounds like. And if Sand People are easily scared off, wouldn’t his old whooping and hollering have worked just as well?

If your answer to that question was a ridiculous Vader-in-Revenge-of-the-Sith-style “NoOOOooOOOOooooOOOOOOOoooOOoOOO” then you’re in luck, because we’ve got more shitty audio changes and it’s the aforementioned Vader scream polluting our ears in Return of the Jedi. Instead of a stoic Vader watching Luke being electrocuted by the Emperor, with an amazing amount of emotion coming through body language alone, we get what used to be the baddest mother f**ker in the galaxy whimpering “No” a la the worst part of Sith before giving the Emperor the old heave ho.

These are all shitty, unnecessary changes that are going to make the movies worse, with maybe the sole exception of ditching the Yoda puppet, though I hate that on principle alone. It boggles the mind why any of these changes are needed. Why was anything changed in the first place? I mean, it’s one thing if Lucas wants to release these director’s cuts, but why the f**k am I robbed of the movies I loved as a kid and a teenager?

You know what the worst part of all this is? In a few years, some kids are going to watch the Star Wars movies for the first time, having heard about how instrumental they were, how popular they were, and how amazing they were and this kid is going to watch these Blu-rays and say to himself “What’s the big f**king deal?” at best and “Wow these kind of suck” at worst. The films have been chopped and glued and amended like some piece of s**t Toyota that refuses to die, rather than being tended to like a classic Corvette. The movies we loved are dying, bit by bit, sound by sound, scene by scene.

f**k you, George Lucas. I loved you once. Now all you do is push me past my boiling point.

Funny or Die has a video out
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/bcbb7b ... rel=player

Everyone else is making their own edits to the dialog now.

[BBvideo 425,350][/BBvideo]
This is one of the stupidest changes anyone has made to movies. I don't know if anyone cares about the Yoda puppet in TPM being erased because those movies were no where near the originals. Fan were making their own edits of those films to remove the Jar Jar and other problems, but the original trilogy was sacrosanct. This is like a bad episode of Robot Chicken.
Top 25 Expected Changes In “Star Wars” Blu-Ray Release

Opening logo to the Star Wars films

You’ve probably already heard that all six Star Wars films will be released on Blu-Ray on September 16, and that the Blu-ray set will feature over 40 hours of bonus material. Three of the discs in the nine-disc saga are full of deleted scenes, props, interviews, paintings, and so on.

But you’ve probably also heard that there are a few changes to the films. Again. And some of the changes are bound to be a tad controversial. Here’s what we expect:
  • Han shoots Greedo, but only after a judo match, scrabble tournament, and seven rounds of rock, paper, scissors.
A small percentage of Ewoks have taken to waxing.
Darth Vader’s cape is tapered to show off his manly shoulders and narrow waist.
New footage added to feature Seth Rogan as object of Luke Skywalker’s bromance.
    Yoda replaced with all-knowing Labradoodle.
Members of the band entertaining Jabba the Hut include the kids from Glee and a few members of Twisted Sister.
“Light saber” replaced with more child-friendly term: wacky stick.
Endor lightspeeder chase sequence restaged to better fit with Yakkety Sax soundtrack.
Half-way through the film, the Emperor’s appearance grows more fresh & dewy thanks to Botox treatment protocol.
Bespin’s Cloud City forced to change name due to copyright suit by Google.
15% of cantina patrons seen enjoying a light and refreshing Diet Coke.
Chewbacca is spurned by Han after changing his relationship status on Facebook.
Jabba the Hut’s size increased by 40% so as not to make Americans self-conscious.
Luke’s Dagobah training montage includes extended pilates sequence.
Bob Barker appears mid-film to remind everyone to spay and neuter their Banta.
R2D2′s beep communication system replaced by the voice of John Leguizamo.
In keeping with today’s low-carb lifestyle, Princess Leia’s bun-braids replaced with rounded slabs of bacon.
Due to regional politics, Battle of Endor renamed Battle of Rebel Aggression.
Snoop Dogg benefits from massive career boost from DVD bonus video: Drop It Like It’s Hoth.
To appeal to the male tween market, show-stopping action sequence culminates in reveal that Darth is Luke’s farter.
Due to climate changes, newscasters on Hoth encourage women to get arms ready for short-sleeve weather.
Emperor forces Death Star to circle Alderaan for two hours at half speed with the left turn signal on the whole time.
Luke argues he can penetrate the Death Star’s defense because “I used to play TONS of Angry Birds.”
To increase multiculturalism, Ben Kenobi’s jedi name revealed to be Obi Juan.
Viewers encouraged to “find the droid you’re looking for” in awkward but lucrative eHarmony tie-in.
(You think we’re kidding? They’re already doing this one:)

True, problem is most of what he is fixing was never broken. And now they are a problem, when watching the movies casually no matter how many millions he throws at it, scenes he tinkers with look like scenes he tinkered with.

I agree with what this guy had to say about Lucas, Why I (reluctantly) cancelled my pre-order for the Star Wars Blu-rays. I read that every time Lucas watches the original trilogy he finds things he wants to change.

What he said before congress back in 1988goes against everything thing he has done to the movies. I guess if Ted Turner does it he should be hung from the nearest tree but if you own the right to the movies and in the case of 2 didn't direct them it is just fine. _.//

I said to myself I wouldn't buy the Blu-Ray version, considering the changes Lucas made, but somehow, I've been tempted to buy it. Something tells me that if the unaltered version of the original trilogy was released in DVD (2006 edition), then it will definitely be released in Blu-Ray in the future. After all, I would rather buy this latest Star Wars edition than anything from DC's Bonds, and I just did.
