No, of course not, but if there's a franchise that's already nudging the $1 billion mark, it seems reasonable to predict that the extra price of 3D tickets might push it across that threshold.

No, it actually made less money than Shrek 3. But then, none of the Shrek films has come close to $1 billion. Shrek 3 was the most successful, with nearly $800 million worldwide. And the article never says that 3D guarantees a billion-dollar haul. It actually says

Not the same thing at all. In fact the only time it really talks about 3D as a factor is in the case of The Hobbit, where it says that the 3D premium and ticket price inflation could push it over $1 billion even if it sell fewer tickets than the $billion-grossing Return of the King.

Wish there were more accurate international records pre-LTK. IIRC Thunderball made nearly the same as TDK domestically, indicating just how big Bond used to be and how it never came close since in the US.

In 65 the average ticket price was around $1,
75m saw it however some of those admissions are re-releases.
TDK had $55m from Imax lets say 5.5m in admission, say around 66m regular tickets sold.

TB could take TDK in ticket to ticket sales.

With inflation TB only cost $75m in today's money. -I think.
