Gemma Arterton Lands Lead Role In "Hansel & Gretel"

I'm not sure I should open a separate topic for this as it's not strictly Bond news, so feel free to delete and we can just talk about it wherever is most appropriate if this is wrong :D

Here goes:

"Looks like Paramount will be packing for a hunting trip.

The studio is on the cusp of triggering production on the Gary Sanchez project Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a dark action movie that picks up with the fairy tale siblings years after the traumatic childhood incident has turned them into bounty hunters. Jeremy Renner, who has been attached for some time, finally has his sister in James Bond babe Gemma Arterton.

Director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow) is hoping to begin shooting the project in Berlin March 7.
Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), Eva Green (Casino Royale) and Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) were all possibilities. But Arteton, who starred in Tamara Drewe, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans in 2010, ultimately snagged the part.

Scheduling, as always, has been in an issue, since Renner is committed to shoot his role in Marvel’s The Avengers just eight weeks after he does Paramount’s Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Witch Hunters will thread the needle between them.

Paramount is also hustling H&G forward to try and get ahead of Fox’s adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which director Timur Bekmambetov will begin shooting in 3D this year for a June 22, 2012 release. The $69-million project, which Seth Grahame-Smith is adapting from his own book and Tim Burton is producing, concerns the fictional efforts of president Abraham Lincoln to keep the bloodsuckers from preying on slaves.

Paramount has nothing but huge projects running out the summer and into the fall/winter of 2011, so H&G could be hustled into a Halloween window slot. The studio already has its blockbuster low-budget Paranormal Activity franchise moving toward a threequel on Oct. 21, opposite Warner Bros.’ all-star Steven Soderbergh action thriller Contagion. Then Lionsgate has set the Sam Raimi-produced creeper Dibbuk Box for Oct. 28.

If not, a cold-weather January opening could be just the season to hunt audiences looking for some hard-R fairy tale violence."
I am going straight to hell for this, but I have this devious grin on my face because Gemma Arterton got the role over Eva Green. Sorry, I cannot stand Eva Green. So to see this, when everyone always talks about how great of an actress Eva Green is (which I don't think she is) is deeply satisfying for me

Sounds like a movie I wouldn't go to see in a million years anyway.

Not that Gemma is much better, mind you. But I'm sure they'd have found a way to showcase Eva's fantasic _./// fashion sense and love of makeup.

I'm wondering if 2011 is the year that BJ and I find ourselves agreeing with each other. Not on everything, that would just be weird. But who knows, let's start small.
Arterton will do anything to whor...work her way into movies. And as much as I like Renner. (I think he's a fine actor), but how long is it before his name pops up as a potential villain or even potential Bond in the tabloids?
He's this years Sam Worthington.
Only a better actor.

 don't say that, they could still hire Eva as the witch! Those two girls lack fashion sense for sure. Gemma is a bit better, but that purple number she had on the Bond red carpet was beyond bad. And unflattering for her figure, too. Still, it was way better than Eva's lime green numbers and Morticia Addams all around look. Gemma sure is the lesser of two evils, shall we put it that way?

I am quite perplexed by the concept of the movie as well. Hansel and Gretel as adult, being witch hunters. Well that's a new one. Not, since vampires and witches are everywhere. Where are the werewolves though? LOL. Seriously, doesn't sound like a movie I'd ever want to see. And maybe this will be the next Twilight

More likely the next Brothers Grimm (and I say that as someone who normally likes Terry Gilliam's films, but Gilliam was just a hired gun on that film and it shows).

We need another Twilight-type franchise like we need a hole in our heads.Every new "paranormal teen romance" book(and there are plenty of them-believe me the Young Adult section at Barnes And Noble is full of them) is being touted as the next Twlight. No thank you. :cuss:
