The Phantom Menace VS Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Which one's better?
Re: The Phantom Menace VS Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I haven't seen Indy 4 yet, but I bloody well hope it's better than TPM.

Indiana Jones of course. It's not even in the same league as the prequels.
Re: The Phantom Menace VS Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Going to see it tonight, barring any unforseen disasters.

Bring back Bond!
Re: The Phantom Menace VS Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I'd put it on a par with Last Crusade - not as good as Raiders (what is?), but better than Temple of Dumb. I liked the way they pretty much dived straight into the plot without a load of tedious set-up. The only criticisms I have of it were the series' usual racist portrayal of aboriginal people as interchangeable mindless brutes and that stupid "symbolic" bit at the end with the hat. I know we shouldn't expect subtlety from an Indy film, but at least give some logical reason for the hat to blow into the church (and by "logical", I mean a reason that works within the internal logic of the film, it doesn't have to make sense in the real world).carl stromberg wrote:I'm looking forward to your review!Kristatos wrote:Going to see it tonight, barring any unforseen disasters.

It didn't blow into the church from the outside, it was blown from the coat hanger.Kristatos wrote:but at least give some logical reason for the hat to blow into the church (and by "logical", I mean a reason that works within the internal logic of the film, it doesn't have to make sense in the real world).

Whoops, I must have blinked at the wrong time or something.stockslivevan wrote:It didn't blow into the church from the outside, it was blown from the coat hanger.Kristatos wrote:but at least give some logical reason for the hat to blow into the church (and by "logical", I mean a reason that works within the internal logic of the film, it doesn't have to make sense in the real world).

It's an odd shot because first it focuses on the doors being blown and we only get a glimpse of the hat hanging on a coat hanger than whoosh! Like you said, blink and you miss it. I do like the bit with Shia holding the hat with fascination and is about the put it on as if it was a passing the torch moment but then Indy snatches it back and has that smile on his face that suggests he's thinking with the wagging finger "Ah ah ah, not on your life kid", making Harrison Ford irreplaceable as Indiana Jones.Kristatos wrote:Whoops, I must have blinked at the wrong time or something.stockslivevan wrote:It didn't blow into the church from the outside, it was blown from the coat hanger.Kristatos wrote:but at least give some logical reason for the hat to blow into the church (and by "logical", I mean a reason that works within the internal logic of the film, it doesn't have to make sense in the real world).

You don't think they're setting up a new series with Mutt then? It wouldn't surprise me if the next film focuses more on him with Harrison relegated to Sir Sean's role in Last Crusade.stockslivevan wrote:but then Indy snatches it back and has that smile on his face that suggests he's thinking with the wagging finger "Ah ah ah, not on your life kid", making Harrison Ford irreplaceable as Indiana Jones.

It doesn't feel right if Mutt's the leading character in Indy V.

I wonder if they'd call it Indy V or Mutt I. Mutt Jones and the... sounds odd.FormerBondFan wrote:It doesn't feel right if Mutt's the leading character in Indy V.

If Mutt's the leading character in the next one, it would make Indy V more like a spin-off than a sequel.

Re: The Phantom Menace VS Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
They were teasing the press with that concept (especially Lucas) but after the film was released they denied it. I think they wanted people to expect that there would be a spin-off with Mutt in the fedora, so they have Mutt hold the fedora and it looks like it's gonna be a foreshadowing of a new spin-off, but then Indy snatches it as a way of the filmmakers saying "fooled you". I haven't seen any news on an Indy film or a Mutt film since the release. I think that's it for everyone. Spielberg will move on to his Abraham Lincoln project and George Lucas will move onto his WWII film.Kristatos wrote:You don't think they're setting up a new series with Mutt then? It's the same thing with Die Hard 5. Everyone was expecting another after the fourth entry was released but a year later no one in the studios ever brought up the idea.
