Do you miss Q and Moneypenny?

Post by carl stromberg »

The po-faced characters who run the Bond franchise seemed to be under the impression that no one likes Q, Moneypenny and the gadgets (well apart from a fully equipped field hospital in Bond's car).

Do you agree?

I hope they make a Craig trilogy fairly quickly and then bring the staples back eventually with a new actor. The traditional Bond who trades quips with Q and flirts with Moneypenny is not really Craig's bag becuse he lacks charm and humour. He's a sullen bash your head in type.

Moneypenny and Q were both in CR the book. No reason they shouldn’t return.
However replacing Q is going to be a difficult because the new guy will not be compared to John Cleese but with Desmond Llewelyn.

On second thought with the way CR went down I was glad they were not in it.
Craig flirting with Moneypenney would have been bad, he didn’t flirt well with any of the females on set.

Maybe James is right let the Craig trilogy finish without them and then go back to them with new actor.
Make them serious nudes!

Yes!
Q, Moneypenny and the gadgets were the biggest draws. The story and the actor playing Bond could change but some things were dependable.

Girl and gadgets brought the guys and gals to the movies.

Well, CR has done well, at the box office, so I'm not sure that argument holds up. But Villiers performed pretty much the same function as Q anyway, giving Bond the defibrillator. No reason that he couldn't have been called Q, the Q predating Desmond Llewellyn's or John Cleese's Q (or Peter Burton's if you want to be really obscure). Moneypenny probably wasn't necessary, but she could have been introduced briefly, as the secretary to Bernard Lee's predecessor as M (not his successor, Judi Dench!).

Yes, but I can see a case for keeping them out of the Craig trilogy.

Q and Moneypenny were part of the formula. (A good part I think)

Lets keep them out and see how this new formula does on its own.

I hope they keep them out for the Craig era. Then, if they start making real James Bond movies again they can bring them back - along with James bond. :o

 Can you back up that statement that they think everyone hates those characters?

Anyway, I hope Moneypenny will come back for Bond 22 and become part of the plot. As for Q, I'm not sure. Desmond really sealed the role after 35 years, I doubt anyone could top that. :?

I was thinking the same. Desmond was Q, and unless there is a real need for the character, I think the series can do without a Q.
Moneypenny I wouldn't mind see return, though I like the Viliers character alot.
