That's the older model which is essentially a lotus re-powered with batteries. The new one is a sedan, I drove one once, a neat bit of kit but personally I was a bit underwhelmed.

Pictures don't do it justice, in person they look a bit more Maserati.

the sedan looks a lot more impressive, over all the cars are a joke. Well that's too harsh but electric cars are lame because it of the battery technology, electric motors are impressive as hell. Tesla a probably packages them the best.
There is a old Chevy S10 someone converted to a electric drag racer that gives the best and newest V8 or better a run for their money.
But electric cars are not green their power comes from somewhere, a far dirtier power plant. Modern cars burn very clean really. Hybrids are not a bad idea but hydrogen powered cars really could be the future.

I liked when bond drove what was available not bring out the db5 every time to prove this is a bond movie. GE was probably the best use of it in modern times. The vantage in TLD was epic with out having to be a modern clone of the DB5 or the DB5 itself.

Lotus is another good example , people instantly think bond when they see a esprit
BMW z3 is another good example although the car was gutless. But it looked cool and was very bondian .

The later bwms were forgettable . As was the T-bird in dad. It was only a wow factor in 2002.

I did like the dad vanquish but it doesn't have the it factor to make it a iconic car.

The later Aston martins in Craig movies are too generic super car. They sell a few in the year the movie is released but that all they are a car ad in the middle of a movie.

I'd say today's Bond ought to have something like a Bentley continental. The new Nissan GTR, but it's not British . Subaru BRZ would be a great budget bond car, it a drivers car but very low power, modders crank up the power enough to give 440 hp , 0-60 in under 4 seconds.
That the real world kind of sports car that fit the Fleming 1950s world .

I remember there was one book there bond was basically in a fast n furious race with a bad guy , some guy in a supedup car tried to race them and the bad guy drove the people off the road killing them. Pissing bond off big time.
If it weren't about selling new cars I'd love to see bond in a older db7 tuned to hell or another in assuming car like that that older almost a classic but affordable to modify

How else are they going to sell a Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall edition DBS'!

That I believe was Casino Royale.

P.S. I also agree with your assessment of electric cars.

Roger Moore drove an Aston Martin DBS in "The Persuaders!" TV-series, same as the Aston in OHMSS you know. I actually think that car looks cooler than the Aston Martin DB5 from GF.

Also over the years Eon had co-operation with Ford Motor Company, there were product placement even in the early films and the Ford Mustang was featured in both GF and TB. This was a very popular car at the time and it became an iconic 60s car later on. It was also affordable to ordinary people, so the Bond movies didn't only have expensive luxury cars.

Image

Image

Bond himself drove a Ford Mustang Mach 1 in DAF.

Image

In OHMSS Tracy drove a 1969 Mercury Cougar, the Mercury brand was part of Ford Motor Company.

Image

Ford's luxury car, the Lincoln Continental was also in both GF and TB.

I think older classic cars have more charisma than newer cars although they of course are technically more advanced.

As for a new Bond car I don't know really. Some say 007 must drive a British car so BMW was all wrong, and it wasn't exclusive enough. The Mustangs weren't that exclusive either at the time, but maybe they were cooler though.

There have been a lot of American cars in the Bond series so maybe Bond could drive an American car again?

The old Dodge Challenger was a classic muscle car from the 70s.

In 2008 it was revived by Dodge and this new model looks rather cool and retro, so maybe it could be a possible Bond car? There is a 2016 version due out as well.

I know Bond has driven other cars, but are they associated with the films by casual viewers the way the DB5 and the Esprit are?

No of course not, I just wanted to point out there have been many cars from Ford in the films, maybe not everyone are aware of this.

There are cars from Ford in the Craig films, Craig even drove a nondescript Ford Mondeo in CR, everybody knows this.

But Ford was associated with 007 even in the early 60s films.

It would be hard to find cars as iconic as the Aston Martin or the Lotus again for Bond.

I was only referring to the Bond series in specific. To date, Moore is the only one of the Bond actors to not drive an Aston Martin in any of his Bond films.

Yes of course, just thought I'd mention he drove one as Brett Sinclair, and that I think it looks cooler than the DB5.

Btw, in GF Leiter and his colleague drove a 1964 Thunderbird, another car from Ford.

When EON start making Bond films again, it would be a welcome treat if they put Bond back in an Aston.

is that the hell cat? It's a freaking monster with a top speed of 200 mph and it cost nothing compared to something like a db9

The Hellcat is a fantastic car and when compared to far more expensive vehicles it certainly holds its own, but is it a car for Bond? I don't think so, it would certainly fit with a police detective character like say a Frank Bullitt, but Bond no.

I forgot about the "DB10" in SP, I think EON was going for a new "iconic" car with that, but considering I and it appears everyone else here forgot about it sort of answers that question. As I've said I really don't think we'll ever see the same sort of iconography of the DB5 or Esprit again. High performance and luxury car have become far too common place.

Also the age of cars has changed its either higher end expensive performance cars you have to be a millionaire to afford or the more generic cookie cutter cars with sometimes ok styling. It doesn't help many of the once independent manufacturers were gobbled up by the big car companies.

I didn't mind BWM z3 or the others in Brosnan's bond because there were somewhat upper tier with decent performance. I would like to think Jaguar would be a decent home for bond but I couldn't tell you who owns them now and I felt ford cheapened the brand by spreading the jag look and innovations around too much .

Other thing that bothers me is the car chases in recent bonds are too perfect they look like a video game. Mi5 car chase was a little bit refreshing with its haphazard crash and dash.

Another factor is that cars are now so hi-tech that it makes it difficult for smaller, independent manufacturers to compete in the market place. Cars like the Lotus Esprit tend to be the work of lone eccentrics who don't have to answer to focus groups and corporate bean-counters.

Jag is owned by an Indian concern now, Ford also cheapened Aston by stealing the iconic frond end grill and placing it on their sedans.

The chases have become far too "by the numbers" that last one in SP was ridiculously boring just slow speed driving with a little rear wheel sliding.

I like the car chase in TND, it was a different take on the classic Bond car chase where 007 has a special equipped car, and it was well made and fun.

For this scene a limousine type car was needed, and I think the BMW was very well suited for this.

This was the best scene by far with a BMW in any of the films.
