Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
Roger himself never took the role seriously he said he played it mostly for laughs. How Bond is a spy and yet everyone knows he is a spy. How every bartender in the world offers him a martini that is shaken-not stirred. He said "what kind of a serious spy gets recognized everywhere he goes?" And he isn't wrong really. In TMWTGG you can obviously how he is uncomfortable in a scene where he threatens to break Andres's arm. The tone of his voice wasn't right-it seemed to be a part of his charm. Moore just doesn't do stuff like that. He said himself his Bond wasn't a killer-he was a charmer and a giggler. Although he played it well when Triple X asked him if he killed her lover. He was good in that scene.Heck,he was great.

Come on, that whole scene is meant to be humorous with Jaws tearing up the van and eventually dropping a stone block on his own foot.commander0077again wrote: Just reviewed TSWLM ..... I didn't realize how cringe-worthy Roger's expressions were during the times of supposedly great danger: eg when he and Anna's truck is being pounded by Jaws, there is an absolute lack of any danger; he just makes comments like, Would you like me to drive? And poor Barbara Bach is trying to act like they're in danger or whatever.

Bond gets himself into some outrageous situations, which is why Moore treated the humour outrageously most of the time. We all know that Bond will always get out of these situations, it's just a question of how he does it. Connery has had his humorous/cool under pressure moments too, especially throughout Diamonds Are Forever.

I love how Bond calmly looks for the key to start the van.

Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
Exactly. I mean in Goldfinger the villain puts him on his private plane but Bond is totally cool and relaxed, drinkink martini, flirting and just being incredibly cool. It seems that he hardly thinks what Goldfinger is going to do with him. Plus his gentlemen like conversation with Goldfinger:"Well,I apologise Goldfinger..."The Saint 007 wrote:Bond gets himself into some outrageous situations, which is why Moore treated the humour outrageously most of the time. Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
I just read one article and one line was:"Honestly, complanining that Bond movies are silly(especially Moore ones) is like complanining that Fifty Shades of Grey has too much sex or that The Game of Thrones" is too heavy on the dragons." LOL,spot on. A critic who actually gets it.

That's a bit exaggerated though, even if I understand Moore's point.Veronica wrote:Roger himself never took the role seriously he said he played it mostly for laughs. Every bartender in the world doesn't recognize Bond, and that Bond's enemies know that Bond exist isn't so far fetched after all.
Bond has been around long enough to have made a name for himself in the intelligence community.
Bond isn't so much a spy either, more of a "licensed trouble shooter" (as Connery put it in TB).
One can perhaps make the comparison with well known mercenaries whom everybody in the private soldiering community know about.
If Bond really was a spy and wanted to stay undercover he should have used aliases and even disguises, which he rarely does.
Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
Moore's Bond probably used aliases more than any of the others (James Stock, Robert Sterling etc). One more reason why the James Bond codename theory is nonsense.Count_Lippe wrote: If Bond really was a spy and wanted to stay undercover he should have used aliases and even disguises, which he rarely does.

Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
Bond was in one hand always an escapism. Suave, charismatic,"too cool to be true" agent. Moore maybe exaggerated a little bit but he isn't that far from the truth. He treated Bond outrageously and hey,he was charming and the most upper-class Bond, also had a great sense of humor-therefore he was very likeable(he still is now).Count_Lippe wrote:That's a bit exaggerated though, even if I understand Moore's point.Veronica wrote:Roger himself never took the role seriously he said he played it mostly for laughs. Re: Best Roger Moore Bond
Connery and Moore were cool and relaxed whatever happened, real movie heroes, while Dalton was more like the Bond in Fleming's books.
Brosnan was a hybrid of the earlier 007 actors, but unfortunately didn't add anything new or anything his own to the role. Perhaps he wanted to but weren't allowed by the filmmakers.
Craig is nothing like either the literary Bond or the previous interpretations of Bond on film.

Dalton's Bond for me-kinda lacked the spark and style. For example in TLD there are moments where he is asked to be like Moore and it just feels flat. The cello riding scene for instance-the moment was bound to be cool but I really wasn't excited about. I don't why is that really. maybe because Dalton isn't as capable of pulling cool "bond" moments that well-but then again that's just my opinion...for me he seemed more ordinary than Connery,Brosnan or Moore.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing-it's just that I always saw Bond as "cool, suave" guy who is cool in situations where other would freak out.
Connery and Moore were both cool-but Moore really put an affect to that. His eye-brow raising, flirting with Solitaire while his life is in danger but he is all cool, aristocrat, throwing his gun cooly in the trash... it's so brilliant to watch that scene... but the crowning moment of awesomeness is Connery's introduction in casino for the first time-and the way he is playing with Largo while playing baccarat-"I see there's a spectre on your shoulder." Plus he shags his chick under the water. How cool can you get? Moore's Bond was more blatantly obvious about his coolnes-a peacock, you could say.
Brosnan captured the traits of previous Bonds-wit when needed but a deadly assaissn when he is on the task and yet he had that incredible coolnes that always reminds me of Connery. Nothing pissed his Bond more than when he was told that he wasn't up to the task-like in TWINE and DAD.
And yet there were still moments when you could see his more introspective nature-the room scene in TND,killing of Kaufmann, scenes with Alec, scenes with Elektra and a couple of scenes with M as well.his Bond was more analyzed as well-by M,Alec,Gustav Graves a.k.a. Colonel Sun,Miranda Frost,Natalya Simjonova-and those were all good analyses that weren't so d**n cringeworthy like all this exploring of Craig's character.
He had it all-the coolness, the sophistication, the charm, both believeable as an assaissn and a lady killer...above all he was the first I ever saw so of course I will always say he is the best
I don't know what Craig is playing but it sure as hell isn't Bond...maybe long lost brother of Steven Seagal or something...when I remeber that "do I look like a give a d**n line" in CR it makes me shudder...they went from Bond who could recognize a brandy by smell and thought that a poor choice of wine with fish is an absolute proof that he is dealing with a double agent to a guy who doesn't care about his martini...terrible on every level.
