If not rape, then certainly sexual harassment. The fact that she was later shown to have enjoyed it merely reminds us that it was a product of a time in which rape victims were routinely quizzed about the way they dressed and their past sexual history in order to determine whether they were "asking for it".
okconnery wrote:there are plenty of dopey mistakes in Bond films, remember in You Only Live Twice Bond accepts a "stirred not shaken" martini from Henderson and calls it perfect.
I wouldn't call that dopey. It gives an insight into Bond's character, showing that he has too much class to embarrass Henderson by correcting his mistake (which is not the same thing as "not giving a d**n").

I disagree completely about the Molly Peters scene. She has plenty of chance to run out of the room, and their attitude is clearly playing with each other. You could just as easily infer she's purposely using this as an excuse to do what she has been wanting to do anyway, also it was implied she was already sleeping with Count Lippe (conquest of Pat another way Bond triumphs over Lippe)

I looked around and stirred not shaken in You Only Live Twice has never been confirmed to be intentional or an error (if an error probably in post-production overdubbing since even the main actors overdubbed their roles, and Connery and Gray probably did not do their overdubbing at the same time). Some people claim Connery pauses or grimaces as he accepts the drink . . .

another mistake in You Only Live Twice is when Bond is asked if he has ever been in Japan before. He replies never, but in From Russia With Love in the scene where they're listening to the tape of him and Tania, Bond starts to relate an adventure he had with M in Tokyo

And in TND, Bond is floored by Chinese characters on a computer keyboard, despite having a first-class degree in Oriental Languages from Cambridge.

I always thought the "stirred, not shaken" scene must be deliberate due to the way it's played by the actors. It goes on a little bit too long to simply be an excuse to work in his famous catchphrase. I think they are playing with the audience's expectations by seeing how Bond reacts when Dikko gets it wrong.

I've always hated the things in 007 films while funny (some of them, others just dumb) that take you right out of the story, especially breaking the fourth wall stuff, and for all their supposed steadfastness about the "perfect" Craig vehicles, in Skyfall the producers did the same thing by including the Goldfinger car, which has no logical connection to the reboot . . . how do you figure the character in the modern reboot is the same person who made fun of the Beatles in the Goldfinger adventure? He'd have to be connery or moore's age

1. double-taking pigeons (Moonraker, I think)
2. music cues that break the fourth wall (beach boys in View To A Kill, Lawrence of Arabia in Spy Who Loved Me, if there are any more etc)
3. the tarzan yell (Octopussy, I think)
4. "this never happened to the other fella"

(p.s. there are rumors that the next two bonds will take place chronologically between Casino Royale and Skyfall, meaning sequels to CR and/or QOS, but prequels to Skyfall)

if that sequel/prequel rumor is true they would have to bring back Judy Dench/M right? Maybe they ended up not having confidence in the nonexistent chemistry between Craig and the new Moneypenny

I know what you mean. There were several Monty Python references in Die Another Day hidden amongst Brosnan and Cleese's dialogue as well.

The the oil tanker truck chase scene at the end of Licence to Kill is also somewhat reminiscent of the truck scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Both were still cool though.

I know some parts of Bond are beyond the pale, but I enjoy them as camp fantasy adventures - especially the Moore epics.

That would really be confusing.

Since Fiennes, Whishaw and Harris have confirmed they are reprising their roles as M, Q & Moneypenny (all introduced in Skyfall), I think we can consider that debunked!

The Craig era has been really radical so nothing would surprise me.

I voted for Moonraker too.

John Gardner's boks are too dated now. He has Bond drive a SAAB and be an 80's character. There is a more timeless feel to Ian's books.
